What You Will Do:

Guidehouse’s Health Technology Consulting team helps healthcare organizations improve clinical operations, financial performance, patient experience, and workforce effectiveness through better use of enterprise technology. Our EHR practice supports health systems across strategy, implementation, optimization, adoption, and value realization.

The Senior Consultant will support and independently deliver Epic patient flow and capacity management engagements for hospitals and health systems. This role requires hands-on Epic Grand Central experience and an understanding of the operational processes that govern patient placement, transfers, bed management, environmental services, patient transport, discharge progression, and enterprise capacity management. The Senior Consultant will work with hospital operations, nursing, transfer center, emergency department, environmental services, transport, clinical informatics, and Epic application teams. The individual will analyze workflows, configure and optimize Epic functionality, lead assigned project workstreams, and support clients in improving patient throughput and capacity management.

• Support Epic Grand Central implementation, optimization, upgrade, assessment, and stabilization engagements.

• Independently lead defined application, workflow, testing, reporting, data, training, or readiness workstreams.

• Analyze current patient flow operations, system configuration, workflows, performance data, governance, and organizational constraints.

• Design and document future-state workflows for bed requests, bed assignment, patient placement, transfers, level-of-care changes, environmental services, patient transport, discharge progression, and capacity escalation.

• Configure and optimize Epic Grand Central functionality, including patient movement, bed planning, bed boards, unit and room configuration, transfer workflows, environmental services, transport, and discharge-related tools.

• Support centralized patient placement, transfer center, bed management, and capacity command center initiatives.

• Document operational requirements, Epic configuration decisions, technical specifications, system dependencies, risks, and outstanding decisions.

• Analyze dependencies across Grand Central, Prelude, Cadence, ASAP, EpicCare Inpatient, Orders, OpTime, Rover, Cogito, interfaces, and third-party capacity management technologies.

• Support the design of capacity command center workflows, role definitions, escalation pathways, decision thresholds, communication processes, and performance reporting.

• Develop and execute unit, application, integrated, regression, and user acceptance testing.

• Create patient movement and capacity testing scenarios that reflect routine operations, surge conditions, transfer delays, bed constraints, discharge barriers, isolation requirements, and other operational exceptions.

• Support data validation and reconciliation related to beds, rooms, units, departments, patient classes, patient movement, environmental services, and transport.

• Participate in workflow validation, operational simulations, training development, cutover planning, go-live support, and post-live stabilization.

• Develop or refine reports, dashboards, workqueues, patient lists, and operational measures related to capacity and patient flow.

• Identify opportunities to reduce emergency department boarding, transfer delays, bed turnaround time, patient placement friction, and unnecessary variation.

• Facilitate client working sessions and present findings, recommendations, design decisions, risks, and project status to operational, clinical, and technology stakeholders.

• Coordinate assigned activities across Epic analysts, operational leaders, client subject matter experts, reporting teams, and technical teams.

• Track workstream scope, deliverables, milestones, risks, issues, dependencies, and decisions.

• Provide day-to-day direction and review for consultants or client analysts when assigned.

• Support proposal development, scope definition, level-of-effort estimates, demonstrations, and presentations.

• Contribute to reusable assessments, workflow libraries, testing scripts, configuration tools, and points of view for the Guidehouse EHR practice.

• Ability to travel up to 50% based on client and project requirements.

What You Will Need:

• Bachelor’s degree obtained from an accredited college or university.

• Minimum of three years of relevant experience in Epic implementation, patient flow operations, healthcare technology, clinical informatics, or a related field.

• Epic Grand Central certification, prior Grand Central certification with the ability to renew, or substantial Grand Central experience with the ability to obtain certification within an agreed period.

• Hands-on experience configuring, implementing, optimizing, or supporting Epic Grand Central.

• Experience supporting at least one Epic implementation, major upgrade, optimization initiative, or comparable patient flow technology project.

• Working knowledge of hospital patient movement, bed management, patient placement, transfers, environmental services, transport, and discharge processes.

• Experience analyzing workflows and translating requirements into Epic configuration, documentation, testing, reporting, or implementation activities.

• Experience developing and executing application and integrated testing.

• Ability to independently manage assigned work, meet deadlines, identify risks, and escalate issues appropriately.

• Experience leading meetings, design sessions, testing activities, or defined project workstreams.

• Strong analytical, written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills.
