About this role

Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence. As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.

We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.

We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.

If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.

About the Role:

As the Engineering Manager for the Data Team, you will lead a high-impact team of data engineers responsible for the foundation of Crusoe’s AI and cloud intelligence. You will bridge the gap between technical execution and business strategy, ensuring our data infrastructure is scalable, reliable, and provides actionable insights for our climate-aligned energy and AI operations.

Your success will be measured by the growth of your engineers, the reliability of our data platform, and your ability to execute a roadmap that supports Crusoe’s mission-critical data needs.

What You'll Be Working On:

- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Manage, coach, and grow a team of data engineers. Conduct regular 1:1s, provide career development guidance, and foster a culture of high performance and psychological safety.

- Strategic Roadmap: Partner with Product, Data Science, and Cloud Leadership to define the long-term vision and quarterly OKRs for the data platform.

- Technical Oversight: While you may not be writing code daily, you will participate in design reviews and ensure the team is building scalable, maintainable architectures (Data Lakes, Warehouses, and ETL frameworks).

- Operational Excellence: Drive engineering best practices, including CI/CD, data quality monitoring (observability), and incident management processes.

- Recruitment: Lead the hiring process to scale the team, focusing on attracting diverse, world-class engineering talent.

- Cross-Functional Partnership: Act as the primary point of contact for data stakeholders across the company, ensuring the data team is unblocked and focused on the highest-priority initiatives.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

- Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with a total of 7+ years in data engineering or software engineering.

- Technical Depth: A strong background in the modern data stack (Python, SQL, Airflow/Dagster, BigQuery/Snowflake,Kafka, Flink) and cloud infrastructure (GCP/AWS). You should be able to lead deep-dive technical discussions.

- Execution Focus: Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-quarter technical projects on time and at high quality.

- Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical challenges into business impact for stakeholders and executives.

- People-First Mindset: A passion for mentorship and a demonstrated ability to help engineers level up in their careers.

- Analytical Thinking: Experience building data-driven cultures where decisions are backed by metrics and rigorous testing.

Bonus Points

- Experience with bare metal, hyperscaler clouds, or GPU infrastructure.

- Deep familiarity with AI/ML data requirements or high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
