Job Description Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Energetic Technician 2 or a Energetic Technicians 3 for our Elkton, Maryland location. The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA. Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Experience panoramic views from Turkey Point Lighthouse on a bluff overlooking the Bay, or from the banks of the C&D Canal where ships from around the globe cruise. https://www.ccgov.org/government/tourism Under supervision, supports processing, management and handling of energetic materials and electromechanical systems while ensuring strict compliance with all energetics safety protocols and a high awareness of electrostatic energy around energetics to prevent unintended discharge. Supports Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) oversight/ coordination for final hardware buy-off and functional-area audits, providing the required energetics documentation and traceability. Adheres/supports Hazardous Operation Standards (HOPS) reviews, Plant Propellant Control Board (PPCB) activities, Hazard Analysis and other safety-based programs that govern energetics operations. Maintains work areas in compliance with Foreign Object Debris (FOD), Electrostatic Discharge (ESD), and 5S standards, ensuring that energetics safety requirements are consistently met. Performs a variety of duties that center on energetics work, including but not limited to assisting engineers in the development of mechanical, electrical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components, and grounding systems and component bonding during assembly, fabrication and transportation in the presence of energetic (explosive) materials to prevent detonation. Works from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, checkout, troubleshooting, prototype building, environmental testing, and simple developmental engineering tasks. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components, process documentation, or test procedures, always considering the unique safety and performance requirements of energetics systems. Job Responsibilities: • Follow the directions of supervision and lead technicians for the fabrication of rocket motors. Works with explosives and chemicals during the processing of propellant and rocket motor components. • Candidate must be able to read and follow written manufacturing instructions. Must be able to work closely with non-manufacturing personnel to meet build requirements and schedules. • Safe handling of hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA and company policies. • Operate production equipment such as mixers, presses, lathes, scales, hoists, forklift, ovens, and paint booths. Operate various instruments such as verniers, durometers, height gage, leak detectors, torque wrenches, and resistance meters. • Support many areas of manufacturing such as - Ordnance, Casting, Insulation, Final Assembly, and Lining when work load requires additional labor. • Performs daily standard work and revises work as necessary. • Capable of identifying discrepancies in design, planning, or manufacturing non-conformance to hardware or material. • Insures operations are performed within the time allowed for the individual component and contacts management when inspection times cannot be met. • Stops operations immediately and reports any safety "near misses" or incidents involving personnel, equipment, etc. Safety • Reports any defective equipment to supervision or leads and tags out equipment accordingly.
Basic Qualifications Energetic Technician 2: • High School Diploma • 2 years overall work experience within a manufacturing environment, additional related education, or a combination • Hands on manufacturing vs. automation experience • Multi-tasked, the ability to work on more than one thing at a time • Good reading and math skills. • Exposure to Chemistry and vocational training such as soldering, woodworking, metal working, electrical, automotive assembly and finishing, welding, or mechanical training. • Must be able to be certified for respirator use, competent to be trained in forklift and hoist operation. • Must be able to work modified shifts, overtime and w
