IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer in Boston, MA. In this role, you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high complexity projects. You will work closely with a team of engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients.
This role focuses on the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for buildings, while supporting project budgets, mentoring less experienced staff, and collaborating across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations. You will contribute to education-focused work and broader institutional renovation projects with an electrical-forward MEP profile, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do
• Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, using engineering software and tools to develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
• Work directly with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships.
• Support consulting project execution as part of the project team, while leading project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives .
• Document design decisions and client instructions, and monitor project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended .
• Analyze engineering problems, propose innovative solutions, and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
• Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system designs, calculations, and specifications.
• Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
• Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with electrical systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
• Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
• Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase.
What You'll Bring
Required
Education
• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
Experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) License required
• 2 years of experience minimum required , 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
Required Skills/Abilities
• Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings
• Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck . Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
• Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
• Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet , MadCAD , and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
• Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS , BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
• Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

• Service mix spans education, transit/aviation, municipal, corrections, and federal healthcare, but its education work still centers on K-12 and higher-ed renovations, labs, libraries, accessibility, and campus system upgrades. • The team also takes on studies, security, audio/visual, energy modeling, and occasional commissioning or retro-commissioning, particularly for public-sector and transportation-related work.
