The Electrical Hardware Engineer - Avionics for Voyager Lunar Systems is responsible for design, manufacturing, testing of electrical hardware and avionics components used across all product lines.

The position reports to the Electronic Systems Manager and is part of Voyager Lunar Systems based in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is hybrid-based in Pittsburgh, PA.

In this role, the essential functions are:

• Design PCBs for spacecraft’s primary and secondary avionics systems.

• Perform trade studies on electronic components and select the best options for engineering and flight avionics units.

• Develop test procedures for component, board-level and system-level integrated testing.

• Testing of fabricated PCBs or integrated avionics systems

• Participating in environmental tests of engineering design units

• Participating in qualification tests of flight design units

• Programming embedded systems, FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar.

• Implement the full systems engineering development cycle, and regularly report to the Avionics Lead on progress.

• Support hardware-in-the-loop testing with engineering and flight systems.

• Write and present technical reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

• B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering

• 2+ years of experience in electronics hardware development

• Schematic and board design proficiency using software like Altium, Eagle, OrCAD, or similar

• Experience using standard electrical lab equipment (power supply, electronic load, multimeter, oscilloscope) to execute test procedures for assembled PCBs or integrated systems

• Rapid prototype development skills

• Strong debugging skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience designing electronic hardware, including computing, signal conditioning, control electronics, filtering, data acquisition, and command & data handling (C&DH)

• Experience writing test plans and procedures for PCBA and/or integrated system bring up, design verification, qualification, and acceptance testing

• Experience developing test scripts in python to automate PCBA and/or integrated system test procedure execution

• Experience performing trade studies for electrical and avionics system architectures, components, and individual parts.

• Experience with PCBA inspection and rework to the requirements IPC-A-610 Class 3

• Systems engineering experience for controlling requirements, risks, and integration flow

• Capable of programming embedded systems, FPGAs, microcontrollers, computer processors, graphic processors, or similar

• Familiarity with NASA-STD 4001 and NASA-STD 4003 or similar

• Experience with digital, analog, and signal conditioning circuit design

• Experience testing to MIL-STD-461 or similar

Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements:

• To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) (22 CFR Parts 120–130) and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) (15 CFR Parts 730–774), applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person: a US Citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3). Applicants must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The good faith base salary range for this role is $80,000–$130,000 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
