About ECE External Engagement The Texas ECE External Engagement staff produce all Department Chair events including Welcome Week, Symposiums/Conferences, Alumni Events, Retirement Celebrations, Awards Ceremonies, etc.

Position Purpose We are seeking a dynamic and creative Marketing & Events Student Assistant to join our team. This role will give the right candidate a chance to create content aligned with campaign goals, grow your portfolio, and sharpen your skills. You will be interviewing sources and posting stories about current students, alumni, research, and programs. You will work closely with the ECE External Engagement staff to produce content from the student perspective. Content assignments will range from departmental events, recruitment information for prospective students, alumni engagement, and opportunities to highlight key areas of interest for the department.

Hours per week: 15 - 20 hours ​Job Start Date: August 2026 Desired Class Level(s): ​ Current Sophomore or Junior Level preferred

Responsibilitie s • Interview sources and post engaging stories about current students, alumni, research, and programs.

• Research story ideas and campus activities related to strategic regions and initiatives.

• Monitor media on CSU sites and other outlets for relevant story content.

• Create marketing materials for events including presentations, flyers, etc.

• Collaborate with ECE staff to produce content from the student perspective.

• Produce content assigned by the UT communications and marketing team.

• Generate ideas for content and film/edit short-form video content.

• Stay current on digital trends, tools, and search engine algorithm updates.

• Suggest strategies to improve reach, engagement, and conversion.

• Help plan and implement web and social media content calendars.

• Assist with ECE events as needed.

Your duties are likely to evolve as you gain experience within the department. This is a long-term opportunity that will lead into future semesters (depending on performance).

Required Qualifications • Creative Expertise: Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, etc.) with a portfolio demonstrating creative design and digital media experience.

• Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Demonstrate a methodical approach to fulfilling projects, proactively identifying solutions and challenges, with a focus on intentional design and photography that expresses originality and innovation.

• Professionalism and Work Ethic: Accountable for owning projects from concept to completion. Demonstrate effective work habits, including strong time management, project organization, and a commitment to ethical practices.

• Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Engage in proactive communication and navigate project conversations in a positive, solution-oriented manner.

Salary Range $12.00 an hour

Working Conditions • May work around standard office conditions.

• Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

• Use of manual dexterity

• Lift and move standard office files and supplies.

Work Shift •  Standard work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

• Monday-Friday in the Engineering Education and Research Center (EER)
