Director, Vaccines Portfolio Medical Strategy and Communications

ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Director, Medical Scientific Communications and Content, Vaccines, in this portfolio-wide, cross-pathogen role, you will be responsible for developing and advancing an integrated medical strategy and unified scientific narrative for Pfizer Vaccines, connecting evidence across pathogens and positioning Pfizer as a rigorous scientific reference point in vaccines across all stages of life. You will lead impactful scientific communication strategies, ensure alignment with portfolio and Therapeutic Area priorities, and drive consistent, evidence-based engagement across the vaccines community.

You will balance these two equally weighted capability areas across the portfolio and its priority specialties and act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME): • Medical Communications and Content: You will lead the portfolio-wide scientific communication and content agenda, translating integrated vaccine science into cohesive publications, congress, and medical-to-medical content.

• Medical Strategy: You will define and advance the cross-pathogen medical strategy, linking Pfizer’s vaccine platforms, life-course protection, and lifecycle evidence into a coherent framework for priority specialties and shared high-risk patient groups.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Define and advance an integrated, cross-pathogen medical strategy that links pathogen biology, life-course protection, and evidence generation into one scientific framework for the portfolio.

• Own and evolve the unified vaccines Scientific Communication Platform, so that product- and Therapeutic Area-level narratives align to the broader scientific story and consistent, evidence-based language flows into every deliverable.

• Develop cross-pathogen scientific narratives, publications, and congress and medical-to-medical content that connect the science for shared high-risk populations rather than communicating asset by asset.

• Set cross-pathogen scientific priorities that create a single entry point into priority specialties (for example cardiology, oncology, respiratory, hematology, and infectious disease) and address shared high-risk groups such as older adults and immunocompromised patients.

• Lead data disclosure and publication plans, partnering with clinical and medical teams during data readouts to shape key messages that reinforce the portfolio narrative.

• Anticipate scientific, epidemiologic, and policy trends and translate them into strategy, feeding insights on durability, real-world effectiveness, and evolving epidemiology back into portfolio priorities.

• Advise senior leaders across the Global Business Unit, providing analysis in complex, ambiguous situations and influencing decisions that shape the scientific direction of the vaccines franchise.

• Partner across Medical, Commercial, and Corporate Communications, and with international medical colleagues, to keep the scientific narrative consistent and ready for local adaptation.

• Manage budgets, agencies, and off-shore teams for portfolio-level deliverables, forecasting and planning resources across projects.

• Serve as a trusted scientific point of contact for the portfolio, maintaining current knowledge of inline and pipeline assets, relevant pathogen biology, and associated policy issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • MD with an MPH and at least 4 years of experience in a relevant scientific area, e.g., Medical Affairs, Scientific Communications, Epidemiology, Immunology, Vaccinology, Virology, in a biopharmaceutical, biotech, or agency setting OR

• PhD with an MPH and at least 5 years of experience in relevant scientific area,  e.g., Medical Affairs, Scientific Communications, Epidemiology, Immunology, Vaccinology, Virology, in a biopharmaceutical, biotech, or agency setting

• Deep scientific grounding in vaccines — including immunology, pathogen biology, and evidence generation across the vaccine lifecycle — sufficient to build cross-pathogen strategy and act as a subject matter expert.

• Experience developing medical or scientific strategy at an asset, portfolio, above-asset, or franchise level, together with scientific communications and content that support scientific exchange.

• Experience translating complex scientific data across multiple pathogens or therapeutic areas into clear communications for varied audiences, with a strong track record of written and oral scientific communication, including at scientific conferences.

• Experience delivering scientific content in a highly regulated environment in a compliant way, including omnichannel formats such as publications, plain language summaries, congress materials, podcasts, and short-form digital articles.

• A track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications, and experience building credibility and working through influence across cross-functional teams.

​ PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience spanning multiple vaccine pathogens or a broad vaccines portfolio

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $176,600.00 to $294,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
