Department Intercollegiate Athletics Job Summary

The Director of Sponsorships and Promotions is responsible for identifying game sponsorships, planning, coordinating, and executing sponsorship activations and promotional initiatives for all “Game Day” home athletic events and assist in coordinating other Athletic Special Events.

This position serves as the primary liaison between corporate partners, athletics marketing, and game operations to ensure contractual sponsorship obligations are fulfilled while creating an engaging and memorable fan experience. The position plays a significant role in attendance growth, fan engagement, sponsor retention, and revenue generation through the successful execution of game-day promotions and corporate partnerships.

This position also plays a role in executing all Athletic Special Events including Hall of Fame, Annual Golf Tournament, Athlete Academic Awards, and sport specific banquets and luncheons. Job Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Sponsorship Activation and Fulfillment • Manage the execution of all game-day sponsorship elements and contractual obligations. • Coordinate sponsor activations, contests, presentations, sampling opportunities, giveaways, and hospitality experiences. • Ensure placement and visibility of sponsor assets, including video board messaging, LED signage, public address announcements, digital displays, and promotional materials. • Develop activation plans that maximize sponsor visibility and return on investment. • Collaborate with multimedia rights partners and athletics staff to ensure seamless partner integration. • Prepare post-event recaps and activation reports for sponsors.

Game-Day Promotions and Fan Experience • Develop and implement promotional plans for home athletic events. • Create game themes, special events, student engagement initiatives, and community outreach promotions. • Coordinate in-game entertainment, contests, giveaways, and fan participation activities. • Assist with development of attendance-driving campaigns across all sports. • Work closely with spirit groups, mascot programs, bands, cheer teams, and student organizations. • Evaluate fan engagement strategies and recommend enhancements to improve the overall game-day experience.

Special Event and Game Operations • Serve as game manager for assigned athletic event. • Coordinate game scripts, sponsorship reads, and promotional timelines. • Ensure all promotional activities are executed according to schedule. • Oversee setup and breakdown of sponsorship displays and promotional areas. • Assist with premium hospitality events and VIP experiences. • Serve as point person for overseeing other Athletic Special Events.

Partner and Campus Relations • Serve as the primary contact for assigned game-day sponsors and Athletic Special Events.. • Build and maintain positive relationships with corporate partners, campus departments, and community organizations. • Assist sponsors with activation planning and execution. • Work collaboratively with ticketing, communications, development, facilities, and operations units.

Marketing and Revenue Support • Support sponsorship sales efforts by identifying and recruiting new activation opportunities and available inventory. • Provide creative recommendations to enhance sponsor value. • Assist in achieving departmental revenue and attendance goals. • Track sponsorship fulfillment and utilization of metrics. • Contribute to retention and renewal efforts through exceptional partner service.

Administrative Responsibilities • Maintain detailed records of sponsor contracts, fulfillment obligations, and promotional schedules. • Manage budgets associated with promotions and game entertainment. • Coordinate production schedules with video board, public address, and event staff. • Prepare reports and presentations for athletics leadership. • Ensure compliance with NCAA, conference, university, and sponsor guidelines.

Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during athletic events. • Ability to lift and transport promotional materials up to 25 pounds. • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field. • Minimum two to five years of experience in collegiate athletics, sports marketing, sponsorship activation, special event management, or related field. • Experience coordinating live events and promotional activities. • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and event management software. • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays in accordance with athletic event schedules.

Desired Qualifications • Master's degree in Sports Administration, Business, Marketing, or related field. • Experience working in NCAA Division I Athletics, professional sports, or multimedia rights organizations (Learfield, Playfly Sports, etc.). • Experience with sponsorship fulfillment and activation reporting. • Knowledge of athletic marketing trends, fan engagement, and revenue-generation strategies. • Experience managing student workers or interns.
