The Opportunity
As Amylyx prepares for future commercialization, we are building the inventory and cost accounting capabilities needed to support a scalable, compliant, and system-enabled operating model. The Director, Inventory & Cost Accounting will serve as the leader and subject matter expert for inventory & cost accounting, cost of sales, standard costing, inventory valuation, and related U.S. GAAP requirements.
This role will be responsible for leading the buildout of the inventory and cost accounting function, including processes, policies, controls, documentation, reporting, and NetSuite-enabled workflows. The Director will partner closely with Supply Chain, Quality, FP&A, IT, external manufacturing partners, external & internal auditors, and the broader Finance organization to ensure inventory and cost of sales are accurately captured, analyzed, controlled, and reported as Amylyx advances toward commercial launch.
Reporting to the Sr. Director, Corporate Accounting, this position requires a hands-on, systems-oriented accounting leader with deep cost accounting expertise, strong business judgment, and the ability to build scalable practices in a dynamic, evolving environment.
We anticipate hiring the Director, Inventory & Cost Accounting in September 2026.
Responsibilities
• Lead the buildout of Amylyx’s inventory and cost of sales accounting function, including scalable processes, policies, controls, documentation, and close procedures.
• Develop and manage complete and accurate standard costs, partner with FP&A to build cost of sales budgets and forecasts, manage related variance analyses, and ensure inventory and cost of sales are appropriately capitalized and valued in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Serve as the company’s subject matter expert for inventory accounting, standard costing, cost of sales, valuation, capitalization, reserves, purchase price and production variances, and related U.S. GAAP matters.
• Own the design, implementation, and optimization of inventory and cost accounting processes in NetSuite, partnering with IT, Finance, Supply Chain, Quality, and external partners.
• Oversee monthly and quarterly inventory and cost of sales close activities, including reconciliations, journal entries, financial flux analyses, purchase price and production variance analysis, management reporting, and support for SEC reporting and financial statement disclosures.
• Partner with Supply Chain, FP&A, and outsourced manufacturing partners to understand manufacturing activity, inventory movements, cost drivers, and operational impacts of purchase price and production variances.
• Provide accounting leadership for third-party manufacturing arrangements, including inventory ownership determinations, inventory capitalization, costing methodologies, reserve assessments, and related contractual accounting considerations.
• Establish and maintain SOX-compliant controls and audit-ready documentation for inventory and cost of sales ensuring operational effectiveness and readiness for internal and external audits.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships and influence across Finance, Supply Chain, IT, Quality, external manufacturing partners, and other key stakeholders.
• Direct annual physical inventory count programs, reconciliation activities, and related control processes across third-party inventory locations.
• Assess organizational needs and develop the inventory and cost accounting function, including recruitment, training, and development of future team members as the business scales.
• Support commercialization readiness activities, including new product launches, manufacturing network expansion, inventory build strategies, and related accounting implications.
• Undertake special projects and strategic initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant inventory and cost accounting experience in manufacturing, biotech, pharmaceutical or life sciences.
• Demonstrated experience building, implementing, or improving inventory and cost accounting processes in a commercial public company environment, with an understanding of the rigor required for quarterly close, audit support, and external reporting.
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP related to inventory and cost of sales.
• Strong ERP including inventory costing methodologies, inventory transactions, manufacturing accounting workflows, system implementations, and process optimization initiatives.
• Experience with inventory and cost of sales close activities, audit support, external reporting, and SOX-compliant controls in a public company environment.
• Experience working with contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs), contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs), and global supply chain networks.
• Strong understanding of supply chain operations, inventory movements, standard cost development, purchase price and production variances, and cost of sales forecasting.
