Purpose:
The Digital Archive Student Assistant will assist in increasing the accessibility of Texas Athletics’ archival materials. The tasks of this role may include request fulfillment, archival appraisal, organization, composing item descriptions, digitizing analog content and preservation work. Through these tasks, the student assistant will learn about the history of The University of Texas and its athletics department and gain a better understanding of the importance of historical documentation and organization. The Digital Archive Student Assistant will learn strategies for making archival materials accessible and how to digitize images at archival standards.
Responsibilities:
• Assist with the labeling, organizing and archiving of Texas Athletics photo, video, audio and graphics content • Fulfill photo and video requests of internal units such as marketing and external entities such as media outlets. Communicate asset availability, fulfillment progress and deadlines to requestors • Scan and digitize still images at archival standards. Transfer and transcode tapes and film to digital formats • Identify locations within the archive for newly acquired items and prepare them for storage • Become familiar with organization of the existing Texas Athletics Box.com archive in order to aid in fulfilling requests in a timely manner • Migrate relevant content to the Longhorn Network video on-demand platform • Assist Head Broadcast Engineer with file migration as needed • Assist Facilities Branding Manager with the creation of exhibits in the Frank Denius Family University of Texas Athletics Hall of Fame and various athletics facilities • Retouch digital images using Adobe Creative Suite • Develop a process for new content to be added to the existing archive • Liaison with third parties such as Getty Images, Endeavor Streaming and Longhorn Sports Properties • Ensure adherence to departmental, university and state trademarks and licensing policies and records retention protocols • Assist in other duties as assigned • Consistently exemplify the core values and quality service standards of Texas Athletics. Always act ethically. Proactively seek guidance when unsure or unclear of a law, rule or policy applicable to you or your department/sport program. Actively participate in assigned education and training programs. Comply with all laws, policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System, The University of Texas at Austin, NCAA, Conference, or other governing body, including state and federal laws. Annually obtain prior written approval and report all outside activities and outside income. Report knowledge of, or reasonable cause to believe, violation(s) of state or federal laws, policies, rules, or regulations of the University, Conference, or NCAA to IA ARMCS or IA HR. Fully cooperate with any investigation by providing complete and accurate information when requested to do so by Texas Athletics and/or the NCAA and do not influence others in any way during an investigation. In compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Texas Education Code Sec. 51.252, this position may be a Non-Confidential Employee as defined by University policies on Sex Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Interpersonal Violence and Stalking. As a Non-Confidential Employee, individuals employed in this position will report incidents of such prohibited conduct to the University’s Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Title IX Coordinator as required by applicable law or University policy. Required Qualifications: • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Excellent attention to detail and ability to apply details consistently • Understanding of file size, file types and resolution • Willingness to learn new programs, take initiative, and work independently • Ability to conduct research independently and present findings • Ability to use discretion regarding personal and/or confidential information • Professional communication skills when addressing student-athletes, coaches and staff • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications: • Interest in the history of The University of Texas and/or Texas Athletics • Experience with photo editing programs, such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom • Experience with scanners, tape decks and the process of digitizing historical content
Salary Range: • $8.25/hour + based in relevant experience
Working Conditions: • May work in all weather conditions • May work in extreme temperatures • May work around standard office conditions • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation • Use of manual dexterity • Lifting and moving
