ChristianaCare is seeking an accomplished healthcare attorney and collaborative legal leader to serve as Deputy General Counsel , reporting to the Chief Legal Officer.

This is a high Impact leadership opportunity for an attorney who wants to operate at the intersection of law, healthcare, business, and strategy. You will lead a team of attorneys and legal professionals, advise senior leaders across the enterprise, and help structure and advance some of ChristianaCare's most important strategic initiatives, including M&A, joint ventures, affiliations, and other complex healthcare transactions.

Your portfolio will also span areas including: • Healthcare regulatory and contracting matters

• IT, cybersecurity, privacy, and technology

• Intellectual property

• Real estate

• Payor contracting and strategy

• Corporate entities and governance

• Investments and financing

• Supply chain and Group Purchasing Organizations

• Anti-kickback, fraud and abuse, and related healthcare regulatory requirements

You will work directly with senior leaders across Finance, Compliance, IT, Purchasing, Real Estate, Campus Leadership, the Medical Group, and Strategy , translating complex legal considerations into practical guidance that enables sound business decisions.

In this role, you will: • Lead and advise on complex healthcare transactions , including M&A, joint ventures, affiliations, strategic partnerships, and other transaction structures.

• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on sophisticated agreements across the healthcare enterprise.

• Provide strategic counsel on healthcare regulatory requirements, including anti-kickback and fraud and abuse considerations.

• Advise senior leadership on legal matters involving technology and cybersecurity, intellectual property, real estate, payor relationships, corporate governance, investments and financing, and supply chain.

• Partner with executive and operational leaders to evaluate legal risk while advancing strategic and business objectives.

• Support enterprise contract-management strategy, systems, and processes.

• Review and advise on organizational policies and policy compliance.

• Lead, mentor, and develop attorneys and legal professionals, including Assistant Corporate Counsel and Legal Analysts.

• Identify professional-development and training opportunities that strengthen the Legal/Risk Management team’s capabilities.

• Partner closely with the Chief Legal Officer on departmental operations, priorities, and strategic initiatives.

• Independently identify emerging legal, regulatory, and operational risks—and opportunities to improve how legal services are delivered across the organization.

• Help drive process improvement, efficiency, and a highly responsive, business-oriented legal function.

The successful candidate will be a strategic counselor, pragmatic problem solver, sophisticated negotiator, and people leader who understands how a complex health system operates. You know when an issue requires deep legal analysis, and when senior leaders need a clear, practical recommendation.

You are comfortable operating independently on significant matters, navigating competing priorities, and advising executives where legal, regulatory, financial, operational, and strategic considerations intersect. Just as importantly, you know how to build relationships. You can earn the confidence of executives, physicians, operational leaders, attorneys, and external partners while developing the legal professionals you lead.

Qualifications The successful candidate will have: • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

• 10+ years of substantive healthcare legal experience advising healthcare providers and/or health systems.

• Significant experience with healthcare operations and regulatory matters, including areas such as patient-care issues, privacy and security, medical staff matters, graduate medical education, and compliance with anti-kickback and fraud and abuse requirements.

• Broad legal experience with particular depth in healthcare law. .

• Healthcare transaction experience involving M&A, joint ventures, affiliations, strategic partnerships, or other complex arrangements will be particularly valuable in this role.
