Labcorp is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist III to join our team at in Torrance, CA.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 2pm-10:30pm
This role is primarily focused on Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) testing and analysis, including wet laboratory processing, probe hybridization, fluorescence microscopy, result interpretation, documentation, and reporting for hematologic (heme) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens.
Job Responsibilities • Perform routine procedures including tissue culture, harvesting, slide making and banding, automated karyotyping, reagent preparation, and FISH processing, probing, and scoping. • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary • Assist with processing of specimens when needed • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology • Five years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience • Three years experience performing FISH wet lab and FISH analysis • California Clinical Cytogeneticist Scientist License
Preferred Qualifications • Five years of experience performing FISH wet laboratory testing and FISH analysis. • Five years performing and interpreting FISH assays on both hematologic (heme) and FFPE specimens. • Scientist in Cytogenetics - CG(ASCP)
Additional Job Standards • In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment • Ability to work independently and within a team environment • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot assays, resolve technical issues, and maintain high-quality laboratory performance. • Previous experience serving as a trainer, technical lead, or subject matter expert in a clinical cytogenetics or molecular pathology laboratory. • Experience performing and interpreting FISH assays on both hematologic (heme) and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) specimens. • Experience validating and implementing new FISH assays, probes, instrumentation, or laboratory workflows.

Pay Range : $27-$42.53 All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
Benefits : Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan.
