About this role
Job Family Group: Legal Group Job Description: Join bp and become a trusted legal adviser supporting the company’s cybersecurity, digital resilience and technology objectives across the Americas. The Counsel – Cyber, Digital Security & Technology Regulation reports to the Managing Counsel – Cyber and serves as a key member of bp’s Cyber Legal team. The role supports bp's cyber legal strategy and serves as a primary legal adviser on cybersecurity, operational resilience, cyber incident response, cyber regulation, digital risk management and technology-related legal matters across the Americas. The role has a primary focus on the United States and Americas region, covering Cybersecurity and Digital Regulation and the role is expected to advise on cybersecurity, operational resilience and technology regulation, including incident reporting, cyber risk management, digital resilience, critical infrastructure protection and emerging regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will help manage cyber and technology risk across bp’s operations, support major cyber incidents and business disruptions, advise on emerging digital regulation, and contribute to secure business growth through technology-enabled transformation. The position offers the opportunity to develop into a broader regional leadership role within Cyber Legal and to become a trusted adviser to senior business, legal and digital security stakeholders across the Americas.
Key Accountabilities • Cyber Incident Response and Crisis Management – Provide legal support during cybersecurity incidents, business disruptions and crisis management activities. • Digital Regulation and Compliance – Advise on cybersecurity, digital resilience and technology-related regulatory developments, with a particular focus on the United States and the Americas. • Technology Contracting and Supplier Security – Support technology, cloud, cybersecurity and digital services transactions. • Cyber Legal Advisory – Act as a trusted legal adviser to Digital Security, Digital Compliance and business stakeholders. • Strategic Transactions and Due Diligence – Support mergers, acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures and strategic projects. • Stakeholder Engagement and Capability Building – Support awareness, training and coordination activities across jurisdictions.
Essential Education • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, or equivalent legal qualification and admission to practice law in another relevant jurisdiction.
• Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity, technology, digital regulation, operational resilience or critical infrastructure matters. • Ability to advise and collaborate effectively across multiple jurisdictions and business environments.
Experience and Job Requirements • Experience advising on technology, cybersecurity, regulatory or commercial legal matters. • Experience drafting and negotiating technology-related agreements. • Experience supporting regulatory compliance programmes. • Strong legal advisory and partner management skills. • Ability to work effectively with business, compliance and technical teams. • Experience managing complex legal and regulatory issues in a dynamic environment.
Desirable Criteria • Cyber incident response or crisis management experience. • Experience supporting cyber incident notification and regulatory engagement. • Experience supporting critical infrastructure operators. • Understanding of US cybersecurity regulatory developments, including SEC cybersecurity disclosure requirements, CIRCIA, TSA / MTSA cybersecurity requirements and related obligations. • Experience supporting supplier risk management and cybersecurity contracting. • Experience supporting acquisitions, divestments or joint ventures involving technology assets. • Understanding of operational technology, industrial control systems or AI security issues. • Experience operating within a multinational organisation.

How much do we pay (Base)? The anticipated base salary for this position is approximately between $200,000 and $260,000 USD annually, *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting. This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
