Controls Systems Technician Be part of the future with Johnson Controls. We are one team, dedicated to working collaboratively to create purposeful solutions that help buildings and operations perform smarter, safer, and more efficiently. In this field-based role, you will support customers by commissioning systems, troubleshooting HVAC and controls issues, and helping deliver a smooth handoff from installation to operation.

Role Overview This role is ideal for a hands-on technician who enjoys field work, customer interaction, and solving practical technical problems. You will perform system commissioning, support basic warranty work, and help ensure HVAC and building automation systems are set up correctly, documented accurately, and operating as intended.

Key Responsibilities • Perform assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools. • Load system-level controller software and support startup activities. • Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems. • Perform basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to end devices such as sensors and actuators. • Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment and verify proper operation. • Respond to basic warranty calls and provide timely field support. • Complete commissioning documentation, on-site documentation, time sheets, expense reports, and as-built updates. • Communicate job progress, changes, and issues to management, the JCI contractor, or the customer. • Communicate with the contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site. • Follow all safety standards and attend required safety training with a strong regard for employee and subcontractor safety.

How You Will Do It • Own each job with accountability, safety, and integrity from arrival through handoff.   Keep the customer informed, follow the work plan, and document progress clearly. • Use Johnson Controls tools to load controller software, perform diagnostics, and confirm that system components are communicating and functioning correctly. • Stay close to the work and remove obstacles for the customer.   Identify issues early, escalate what needs attention, and resolve basic problems efficiently. • Improve every day through candor, practical problem-solving, and accurate documentation.   Capture changes, complete as-built information, and maintain clean job records. • Win as one team by sharing information and supporting managers, contractors, mechanics, and customers.   Communicate job status, concerns, and next steps in a professional and timely manner. • Use basic electronic test equipment and sound field practices to calibrate systems and verify results before leaving the site.

Qualifications • One to two years of industry experience or experience servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry. • PC experience and the ability to program HVAC-related software. • Ability to use hand and power tools such as drills and saws. • Basic knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems. • Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls to customers and outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner. • Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people. • Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical Building Automation equipment on a job site. • Attention to detail, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, good communication skills, and strong listening skills.

Nice to Have • Knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques. • Low voltage wiring skills. • Experience testing, troubleshooting, and checking systems with a multimeter. • Experience working with Microsoft Excel. • Depending on location, mounting and termination of low voltage devices may require special licensing.
