The Investment Controllership Reporting & Advisory team is looking for a passionate and driven individual to join us as a Consultant on the Reporting & Advisory team! The Investment Controllership Reporting & Advisory team is responsible for providing analysis and communication on complex investment accounting transactions, processes, and financial results. This role is critical in supporting reporting initiatives, strengthening business partner relationships, and driving process improvement.   Key responsibilities may include:  - Perform tasks to support quarterly investment impairment analysis - Support the investment consolidation evaluation process - Perform portfolio-wide risk-related activities to support the accurate reporting of Nationwide financial information  - Manage important business partner relationships across internal teams while cultivating strong, collaborative partnerships.  - Research & advise on accounting for new investment opportunities or unusual transactions   The ideal candidate is a critical thinker with reporting or technical accounting experience who is naturally curious, passionate about learning, and motivated to continuously improve how our work gets done. This position will be hired on a SuccessFlex basis.  The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of the following location(s):  1 Nationwide Plaza Work schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote.

As a Consultant, you'll work with investment accounting leadership on the most complex investment accounting functions or responsibilities. We'll count on you to provide consultation on the optimal practices to acquire, evaluate, interpret, record and analyze financial data used to prepare financial reports, documents and statements for various regulatory and statutory authorities and for internal management of all levels. Job Description Key Responsibilities: • Coordinates the research, analysis and implementation of new and/or revised investment accounting policies and procedures. Leads the development of recommendations that would enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow.

• Advises senior management on industry practices to acquire data, record, analyze and prepare the most complex investment accounting transactions and statements.

• Develops and submits complex investment accounting and financial transactions required to ensure proper reporting.

• Advises management of the accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.

• Coordinates the development of actions/policies to deal with unfavorable financial situations as disclosed by investment accounting analysis.

• Stays up-to-date on changes to GAAP regulatory requirements and functions as the specialist on changes which will ultimately impact the submission of financial documents, reports and other data. Provides consultation to management on the internal impact.

• Acts as project lead in the development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned areas.

• Guides the preparation and analysis of the most complex pro forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements.

• Provides consultation to management in applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.

• Consults regarding supplemental reporting requirements for the company(ies) and business areas.

• Coordinates and leads the preparation of complex financial information to provide to internal and external auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies, as assigned.

• Provides consulting on the preparation of special reports and presentations as advised.

• Serves in a lead consultant capacity to other investment accountants on selected projects.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Investment Accounting Manager/Director; Individual contributor role, but may serve in a project lead capacity.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance or business administration. Accounting major and degree preferred.

License/Certification/Designation:  Progress towards CPA designation preferred.

Experience: Seven years of investment accounting experience, preferably in the insurance or financial service industries and within a specific product/business area.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: GAAP knowledge and functional business area regulatory requirements. Knowledge of industry practices in complex financial statement preparation including consolidation of companies/subsidiaries. Principles of taxation and the related impact on financial statement preparation. Investment accounting and/or business
