Join Our Team as an Attorney at Axiom

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Contracts Counsel with a strong background in the nonprofit sector to join our Commercial Contracts team. In this role, you will support nonprofit organizations by reviewing, negotiating, and managing grant-related agreements while partnering with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance and advance mission-driven initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Review, draft, and negotiate grant agreements, funding agreements, and other commercial contracts.

• Review and approve grant proposals to ensure compliance with organizational policies, funding requirements, and applicable regulations.

• Provide legal guidance throughout the grant lifecycle, from proposal development through execution and ongoing administration.

• Partner with program teams, finance, development, compliance, and leadership to support grant-funded initiatives.

• Identify and mitigate legal and contractual risks while providing practical, business-oriented solutions.

• Ensure contracts and grant documentation comply with federal, state, foundation, and private funding requirements.

• Assist with developing and improving contracting processes, templates, and internal policies.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of commercial contracts experience , preferably supporting nonprofit organizations.

• Demonstrated experience reviewing and approving grant proposals and grant agreements .

• Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements.

• Knowledge of nonprofit operations and grant funding processes.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

• Ability to balance legal risk with practical business and mission-focused objectives.

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar admission preferred.

Preferred Skills:

• Direct in-house experience supporting a nonprofit organization.

• Experience with federal, state, private foundation, and corporate grant funding.

• Familiarity with grant compliance, reporting obligations, and funding requirements.

• Experience collaborating with development, finance, and program management teams.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple agreements simultaneously.

Compensation:

The estimated total compensation for full-time Axiom attorney roles is $104,500-325,000 per year and for non-attorney roles is $71,250-309,750 per year. Compensation decisions are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skills, certifications, location, and business needs.
