Department BSD PSY - Benchell About the Department The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago has a longstanding commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and research. Its faculty bring expertise across a broad range of psychiatric subspecialties and neuroscience, with a strong focus on advancing the understanding and treatment of mental illness.
Research within the Department is broad and multidisciplinary, spanning clinical, translational, and neuroscience research. Areas of expertise include anxiety and mood disorders, autism spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, dementia and cognitive disorders, eating disorders, obesity and related behavioral health conditions, substance use disorders, and impulse control and related disorders. Faculty also examine developmental and other factors that influence mental health and treatment response, utilizing contemporary approaches such as neuroimaging, genetics and genomics, behavioral research, and clinical investigation.
Together, these efforts support the Department’s mission to advance psychiatric knowledge, educate the next generation of clinicians and scientists, and improve outcomes for individuals affected by mental illness. Job Summary The Clinical Research Coordinator III coordinates and supports the day to day activities of a multi site clinical research study across seven participating locations. Working in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and study teams, the position coordinates study operations, participant activities, data collection, REDCap administration, regulatory activities, and adherence to established research protocols. The Clinical Research Coordinator III serves as a key point of contact for participating sites, study personnel, and research participants and their families, helping ensure study activities are completed accurately, consistently, and according to established timelines and requirements. Responsibilities • Coordinates day to day activities for a 7 site, multi site clinical research study, supporting consistent and timely implementation of study activities across all participating locations.
• Develops, maintains, and administers REDCap projects in support of study activities, including coordinating the timely distribution and completion of participant surveys and monitoring data collection.
• Coordinates study schedules, timelines, and research activities across all seven participating sites.
• Communicates regularly with Site Principal Investigators, research assistants, interventionists, and other study personnel regarding study activities, deadlines, and operational needs.
• Partners with the Principal Investigator and study team to support Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, including protocol amendments, modifications, and other regulatory submissions or documentation as needed.
• Monitors study activities across participating sites for adherence to established research protocols and procedures. Supports accurate, complete, and timely collection of study data and identifies potential issues requiring follow up or escalation.
• Serves as a point of contact for research participants and their families throughout the study. Responds to questions and provides guidance regarding study participation, including the informed consent process, study activities, and completion of required surveys.
• Maintains effective communication and coordination among the Principal Investigator, participating sites, study personnel, and research participants to support successful execution of the 7 site study.
• Assists with various professional, organizational, and operational tasks under moderate supervision.
• Facilitates and participates in the daily activities of moderately complex clinical studies and performs various activities including patient data retrieval, documenting clinical research records, and participation in program audits.
• Uses knowledge of clinical studies to coordinate the collection of analyzable clinical research data and/or samples with a limited to moderate degree of independence. Contributes to the problem solving on assigned clinical research studies and tasks.
• Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: ---
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: • Experience coordinating clinical or human subjects research studies, preferably within a multi site intervention study.
• Experience coordinating research activities with Site Principal Investigators, research assistants, interventionists, and other study personnel across multiple participating sites.
• Experience developing, maintaining, and providing ongoing support for REDCap projects, including survey administration and research data collection.
• Experience supporting IRB submissions, protocol amendments, regulatory documentation, and related research compliance activities.
• Experience communicating effectively with research participants and their families throughout the research process, including informed consent, study activities, and survey completion.
Preferred Competencies • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple study activities, timelines, priorities, and participating sites.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate information, and determine appropriate next steps.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate research documentation and data.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with Principal Investigators, research staff, study participants, families, and other internal and external partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
