Job Description:

The Clinical Lead, Oncology Nurse serves as the clinical and operational leader for nursing services within the outpatient oncology practice. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality patient care delivery, supporting nursing staff development, and maintaining efficient infusion and clinic workflows. The Clinical Lead partners closely with providers, pharmacy, revenue cycle, and administrative leadership to optimize patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and practice performance.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both direct patient care and day-to-day clinical oversight.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership & Patient Care · Oversee daily clinical operations of the infusion suite and nursing workflows · Ensures adherence to oncology standards (ONS guidelines, chemotherapy safety, hazardous drug handling) · Monitors treatment plan accuracy, MAR completeness, and documentation integrity · Serves as escalation point for clinical concerns, adverse events, and complex patient scenarios · Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and evidence-based practice

Operations & Workflow Management · Coordinates daily staffing assignments and patient flow to optimize chair utilization and minimize delays · Ensures end-of-day processes are completed (e.g., MAR reconciliation, charge capture readiness, documentation completion) · Oversees treatment plan workflows, including coordination with authorization and pharmacy teams · Identifies and addresses workflow gaps impacting patient care, throughput, or revenue cycle performance · Supports implementation of new programs, protocols, and clinical initiatives Staff Supervision & Development · Provides direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, MAs as applicable) · Ensures appropriate onboarding, orientation, and competency validation for nursing staff · Monitors staff performance and adherence to scope of practice and clinical protocols · Addresses performance concerns in collaboration with leadership (verbal coaching, corrective action, PIPs as needed) · Identifies staffing needs and participates in recruitment, interviewing, and hiring

Care Coordination & Patient Experience · Ensures effective coordination of care across the multidisciplinary team (providers, navigation, pharmacy, RCM) · Promotes high-quality patient education, including chemotherapy/immunotherapy teaching (preferably in-person when appropriate) · Monitors patient communication workflows (triage, callbacks, inbox management) · Ensures timely follow-up and continuity of care

Leadership & Team Development · Serves as liaison between nursing staff, providers, and practice leadership · Participates in leadership meetings, contributing to operational and clinical strategy · Collaborate with pharmacy, supply chain, and administrative teams to ensure resource availability and operational readiness Compliance & Quality · Maintains compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards · Supports quality improvement initiatives and participates in audits (documentation, chemotherapy safety, billing readiness) · Ensures accurate and timely documentation in the EMR · Tracks and addresses trends in errors, near misses, or workflow breakdowns Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities required of the employee for this job. Qualifications

Required: · Active RN license in state of practice · Minimum 3–5 years of oncology nursing experience (infusion experience strongly preferred) · BSN · ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Certification (or willingness to obtain within defined timeframe) · Strong knowledge of oncology workflows, treatment plans, and medication safety Preferred: · Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) · Experience in outpatient/community oncology setting

· Clinical Expertise: Strong foundation in oncology care delivery and patient management · Operational Leadership: Ability to build and optimize workflows that support efficient, high-quality care · Program Development: Experience launching or scaling clinical programs and driving growth · Collaboration: Works effectively across physicians, APPs, nursing, and administrative teams · Data-Driven Decision Making: Uses metrics and performance data to drive improvements · Patient-Centered Focus: Commitment to delivering exceptional patient experiences · Tech Requirements for the Job: · High-speed, reliable internet connection to ensure uninterrupted communication and access to necessary systems and tools. · Quiet and private work environment to maintain the confidentiality of patient information and minimize background noise during calls. · Proficiency in using remote collaboration tools, such as video conferencing software, instant messaging platforms, and customer relationship management systems. · Compliance with all security and privacy policies and protocols, including safeguarding patient information and maintaining HIPAA compliance.
