Position Overview The Clinical Laboratory QC Specialist functions within the Technical Laboratory under the direction of the Supervisor, Clinical Laboratory Quality Control, the Quality Control Lead, or their designee. In this role, the Clinical Laboratory QC Specialist supports daily quality control (QC) operations by ensuring activities are conducted efficiently and effectively.

The position collaborates with laboratory leadership to anticipate, identify, and resolve issues affecting quality control processes and operational efficiency. Under the guidance of the QC Supervisor, the Clinical Laboratory QC Specialist works cross-functionally with departments including Materials Management, Technical Services, and Laboratory Systems Development to maintain adequate reagent inventory and identify quality- and reagent-related concerns. Additionally, the Clinical Laboratory QC Specialist assists QC Leadership with process improvement initiatives and supports bench testing activities for up to 50% of working time.

Essential Duties Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Quality Control Operations • Perform all assigned duties in accordance with established laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

• Execute daily QC scripts using statistical software and review generated QC data.

• Identify quality control issues, errors, and trends, and promptly communicate findings to the QC Specialist II and other QC team members.

• Assist with investigations of quality control issues, errors, and trends as needed.

• Assist in the preparation of monthly quality control reports.

• Perform validation, verification, and performance studies under the guidance of QC leadership.

• Collect and compile validation, verification, and study data for review.

• Participate in the review and interpretation of validation, verification, and study results.

Laboratory Support • Support QC Supervisors, QC Leads, and QC team members in maintaining laboratory turnaround times.

• Escalate concerns and assist in answering technical questions from laboratory personnel and other stakeholders, as appropriate.

• Prepare QC materials, proficiency testing samples, patient specimens, and other sample types for analysis, including analyzer-to-analyzer and lot-to-lot comparison studies.

• Ensure sample suitability and compliance with established laboratory guidelines.

• Assist in troubleshooting failed proficiency testing events when required.

Inventory Management • Maintain adequate inventory levels of laboratory reagents and supplies.

• Monitor inventory status and promptly communicate potential shortages or issues to QC leadership.

• Partner with cross-functional teams to resolve reagent-related concerns and support continuous laboratory operations.

Instrument and Validation Support • Collect instrument performance qualification data and prepare summary reports.

• Support instrument verification, validation, and ongoing performance monitoring activities.

Training and Process Improvement • Assist with training and knowledge transfer regarding laboratory procedures, methodologies, instrumentation, and policy updates.

• Provide technical guidance, demonstrations, and instruction to laboratory staff, new employees, students, residents, clients, and other stakeholders as appropriate.

• Contribute to the development, review, revision, and implementation of laboratory procedures and documentation.

• Remain informed of procedural updates and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.

Compliance and Communication • Maintain ethical standards in all laboratory testing activities and professional interactions.

• Comply with the organization's Quality Management System (QMS) and all applicable regulatory requirements.
