About this role
Focused Energy is a fusion energy startup with the goal of generating unlimited clean energy to responsibly meet future global demand. With the use and commercialization of laser-induced inertial fusion, a clean and highly efficient power generation technology is coming within reach, suitable to ensure a secure and scalable future energy supply.
We are seeking a skilled and highly reliable Cleanroom Lab Technician to support the operation, upkeep, and continuous improvement of our cleanroom and experimental laboratory environments. You will play a critical role in maintaining contamination-controlled spaces, supporting scientists and engineers with small and mid-sized technical projects, assisting with installation and implementation work, and ensuring equipment and consumables are always available and ready. Your work will directly support high-precision laser, optical, and experimental development efforts essential to our fusion energy mission.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Cleanroom Operations & Upkeep: Execute routine and advanced cleanroom cleaning protocols, including surface wipe-downs, floor maintenance, consumable replacement, and environmental monitoring to ensure compliance with cleanliness classifications and internal standards.
- Technical Project Support: Assist scientists and engineers with preparation, execution, and wrap-up of small and mid-sized projects—including component preparation, basic mechanical or optical setup tasks, labeling, documentation, and safe material handling.
- Procurement & Inventory Ownership: Manage ordering, tracking, and restocking of tools, consumables, lab supplies, and specialized cleanroom equipment. Develop and maintain an organized system that ensures availability while minimizing delays or shortages.
- Tool & Equipment Coordination: Support the installation, calibration, and basic maintenance of cleanroom equipment and laboratory tools. Coordinate with external vendors as needed for service, repairs, inspections, and deliveries.
- Minor Construction & Installation: Perform hands-on work beyond standard cleanroom technician tasks—including assisting with infrastructure buildouts, racking installation, cable routing, light mechanical fabrication, fixture mounting, and implementation of new workflows or stations.
- Process & Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures, contamination control protocols, PPE requirements, and material flow rules. Help identify issues proactively and support corrective actions.
- Documentation & Continuous Improvement: Maintain accurate logs, checklists, and inventory records. Contribute to improving procedures, increasing operational efficiency, and enhancing the usability and reliability of the cleanroom environment.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Cleanroom Experience: You understand cleanliness protocols, gowning procedures, and the importance of precision and consistency in technical environments. Experience working in cleanroom environments or other contamination-controlled labs is beneficial.
- Hands-On Technical Skills: Comfortable with tools, fixtures, mechanical assembly, and light installation tasks. You can follow engineering instructions and support lab build-outs, equipment moves, or setup changes.
- Organized & Detail-Driven: Strong ability to maintain order across inventory, supplies, logs, and checklists. You take pride in creating smooth, predictable, and well-structured operational systems.
- Problem Solver & Self-Starter: You notice issues early, suggest improvements, and take initiative to resolve small problems before they become big ones. You thrive in environments where ownership and proactivity matter.
- Procurement & Vendor Coordination: Experience managing orders, tracking shipments, comparing suppliers, and coordinating with vendors for equipment or service needs.
- Safety & Compliance Mindset: Knowledge of lab safety protocols, including handling chemicals, equipment, and materials within cleanrooms or technical laboratory environments.
- Preferred: Light Fabrication or Lab Build Experience: Background in supporting construction of lab setups, racking, optical tables, cable routing, or similar technical infrastructure is a plus.
