We are currently looking for a Calibration / Metrology Technician for our Grand Rapids, Michigan location. Working within the Global Operations & Supply Chain organization in our Central manufacturing region, this role is responsible for calibrating and maintaining a variety of test, inspection, and measurement equipment to ensure compliance with established standards. In this role, you will support calibration activities at the Grand Rapids, MI site while contributing to global metrology practices across Medtronic. With a strong focus on quality and compliance, you will help enable teams focused on quality, innovation, and manufacturing.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
• Perform calibrations and measurements traceable to NIST and the International System of Units (SI) using appropriately maintained reference standards. Test , inspection, and measurement equipment range from general-purpose physical and dimensional equipment to custom-built manufacturing equipment. Disciplines comprise : Mass, Temperature, Humidity, Vacuum, Length, Optics, Conductivity, Pressure, Dimensional Metrology, Force, Torque, Flow, plus more.
• Create and modify calibration procedures by determining metrology requirements from manufacturer’s manuals, laboratory methods, system requirements, or other approved documentation.
• Coordinate with external suppliers to schedule and manage calibration services, ensuring timely completion and adherence to quality standards. Create and maintain purchase orders for outsourced calibration activities and monitor vendor performance.
• Interact with equipment owning engineers and technicians to schedule calibration activities, provide guidance related to selection of test and measurement equipment, and lead others in following appropriate documented procedures in place for the Metrology department.
• Place a strong focus on attention to detail while properly documenting calibration results into the calibration tracking database using validated templates or test point grids. As appropriate , issue Out of Tolerance (OOT) or Non-conformance (NC) reports.
• Troubleshoot, inspect, and adjust/repair test and measurement equipment in support of new and existing projects.
• Provide in-lab and on-site calibration support for equipment that is either too sensitive to move or is too large and not feasible to relocate .
• Work overtime when necessary to support high priority requests or meet project goals.
Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires 0 years of relevant technical experience. No minimum education requirement.
Nice to Have: • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Familiarity with standards and regulations for calibration and the Medical Device Industry, such as ISO 13485:2016, ISO 17025, FDA 21 CFR 82 0
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
