Job Description Buyer I, under supervision, performs entry-level, standard purchasing duties with the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment, and routine services.

Responsibilities: • Procures goods and services.

• Prepares specifications for purchases.

• Receives requisitions, secures bids, tabulates, and makes award on standard purchases.

• Maintains records and files of requisitions, bids, and awards processed.

• Issues purchase orders according to proper policies and procedures.

• Ensures accuracy of purchases.

• Returns incorrect/damaged shipments to vendors and resolves inquiries and problems relative to solicitation/procurement actions.  

Required Education a nd Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• No prior experience required.

Preferred Education a nd Experience: • One (1) to two (2) years of purchasing experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

• Knowledge of standard business terms and arithmetic.

• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Other Requirements: Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
