About this role

Business reporter The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is hiring a Business Reporter to cover the intersection of business and politics in Washington, D.C. About the role :  This position will be responsible for writing breaking news and enterprise stories for The Hill’s business section on a wide variety of topics, from taxes and the budget to finance, healthcare, technology, energy and other subjects. The business reporter will cover K Street and will be a key player in putting together The Hill’s annual Top Lobbyists list. We’re looking for someone who can look at business through the prism of politics to find insightful angles. Being able to coordinate with other reporters who specialize in areas such as healthcare, technology and energy is a must. This is a large beat that can encompass the administration, Congress, K Street and trends at the state level. A successful reporter in this role will be writing a mix of spot stories as well as longer feature stories and analysis. They will work closely with editors to fill a business section on days when our print newspaper is published. Strong communication skills and an ability to balance and prioritize are keys to success in the role. Responsibilities include:  -Writing breaking news and larger enterprise stories for The Hill’s print edition and website in ways that highlight The Hill’s depth and reach a larger readership. -Compiling our Top Lobbyists list, which is published at the end of the calendar year. -Keeping track of economic reports and news coming from the administration and Congress.

Skills and qualifications:  A degree in journalism or a related field is required, as is previous newsroom experience. Previous experience covering business and politics is a plus. Candidates should have good instincts for understanding what readers want and be able to produce error-free, clean journalism on a tight timetable. Salary Range: $62,500.00 - $65,000.00 based upon experience Benefits: Our comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees includes, but not limited to, medical (with multiple plan options), dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, a 401(k) with company matching contributions, Paid Parental leave, life insurance and more.   Part time employees are eligible for 401(k) and any local/state leave plans.  Union positions are subject to the benefits outlined in their Collective Bargaining Agreement. #LI-Onsite
