Department BSD BIS - Business Intelligence Services About the Department The University of Chicago biomedical enterprise houses three entities: the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), and the Pritzker School of Medicine. Collectively called UCM, we are one of the nation's leading academic medical institutions and have been at the forefront of discovery, education, and clinical care since 1927. Located 20 minutes south of downtown Chicago, our Hyde Park main campus provides a single environment for learning, world-renowned basic science and clinical research, and outstanding clinical care.

The BSD is the largest academic unit within the University. The BSD is comprised of faculty from ten basic science departments, 13 clinical departments, and several Centers and Institutes. Job Summary The Business Intelligence & Analytics Analyst designs, develops, and supports data integration, data modeling, and business intelligence solutions that enable enterprise reporting and analytics. This role is responsible for building and maintaining ETL processes, database objects, and reporting data structures; ensuring data quality and security; and supporting BI applications and users across academic, administrative, and clinical areas. Responsibilities • Design, develop, test, and maintain ETL/ELT processes for enterprise reporting and analytics.

• Design and support dimensional data models, database objects, and reporting data structures.

• Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and related database components.

• Gather and translate business and reporting requirements into technical solutions.

• Create and maintain technical documentation, metadata, data definitions, and source-to-target mappings.

• Support BI reports, dashboards, and analytic applications.

• Monitor and troubleshoot ETL jobs, data issues, and BI application problems.

• Ensure data quality, integrity, security, access control, and compliance.

• Support software upgrades, testing, deployment activities, and continuous improvement efforts

• Plans and executes requirements analysis, translating requirements into a scope document and developing reporting deliverables based on the design.

• Works with users to ensure deliverables are meeting or exceeding expectations. Provides support and communicates issues to users as defined by IT standards. Monitors access control and troubleshoot BI and analytic applications.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: ---

Preferred Qualifications

Education: • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, engineering, business analytics, healthcare analytics, or a related analytical or STEM field strongly preferred.

Experience: • 2-5 years of professional experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence, healthcare analytics, or related technical roles strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated experience writing optimized SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformation logic strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated experience working with large and complex datasets across multiple enterprise systems strongly preferred.

• Experience supporting analytics reporting, automated workflows, or ETL/data integration processes strongly preferred.

​ Preferred Competencies • Proficient in Microsoft SQL, business analytics and reporting tools such as Power BI and Tableau, and ETL tools such as Microsoft Integration Services.

• Familiar with data warehousing concepts, such as Kimballs' techniques regarding dimensional modeling.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance with organizational priv
