This role is eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus, subject to the terms and conditions of the Company's sign-on bonus program.
Apex is seeking an experienced Bridge and Structures Project Manager to join our growing structural engineering department. This is an opportunity to plan work, lead teams, and deliver creative, practical designs for bridges and other transportation structures that are the backbone of our communities. Apex provides planning, engineering, and construction management services for transportation, industrial, and environmental projects throughout the United States, with a strong emphasis on Pacific Northwest projects that make a difference where we work and live.
The successful candidate will lead bridge and transportation structures projects, contribute to multidisciplinary teams, and build trusted relationships with clients, agencies, contractors, and owners. The role requires initiative, sound technical judgment, strong communication, and the ability to manage projects and structural tasks with limited direction while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
This is primarily a bridge and transportation structures position, with opportunities to support other structure types. Apex offers a collaborative environment, support for professional growth, and varied project opportunities for an enthusiastic, curious, and motivated leader.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, direct, manage, and perform bridge and structural engineering for transportation, industrial, and public works projects.
• Lead project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, staffing, and client coordination.
• Prepare and oversee structural calculations, plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates.
• Provide technical leadership for new bridge design, rehabilitation and retrofit, culvert replacements, retaining walls, landslide mitigation, and condition assessment and repair.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and permitting requirements, including the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, WSDOT Bridge
• Design Manual, Oregon Bridge Design Manual, and similar agency criteria.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated, efficient services that meet client needs.
• Lead or support field investigations, structural condition assessments, and construction-phase services.
• Mentor and direct junior engineers, designers, and technical staff; review work and support professional development.
• Support client management, proposal preparation, interviews, and pursuit of new work; contribute to business development and market growth.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 8 or more years of progressively responsible structural design experience, including concrete, steel, and timber structures.
• Pacific Northwest experience delivering state and local agency bridge or transportation design projects.
• Demonstrated task and project management experience; bridge project management experience strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software. Experience with programs such as CSiBridge, LPILE, SAP2000, RISA-3D, or similar tools is desirable.
• Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and applicable state bridge design manuals, codes, standards, and permitting requirements.
• Ability to prepare and review calculations, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with clients, agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to lead staff, manage competing priorities, solve problems independently, and deliver quality work with limited direction.
• Basic AutoCAD knowledge and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE).
• Structural Engineer (SE) license, particularly a Washington State SE license.
• Prior consulting experience.
• Experience leading complex concrete and steel bridge design, rehabilitation, or retrofit projects.
• Experience contributing to or leading business development efforts, including client development, proposals, and interviews.
• Experience with marine structures, industrial structures, retaining walls, large culverts, or landslide mitigation.
