Job Description

The New York Times Advertising is hiring an Associate Programmatic Sales Director to join our Sales Team. You will join The Times at a very exciting time, as we tap into the enormous programmatic demand for quality audiences and content from our agency and advertiser partners. Success will require an intensity of effort, demonstrated through targeted outreach, pitch meetings, and securing new PMP deals, in partnership with The Times's vertical sales teams. This is a temp position, beginning mid-October, 2026, covering the Programmatic Sales Director.

About the Role

You will grow our programmatic revenue across The New York Times portfolio. Using existing programmatic-buyer relationships is an imperative for success. You will engage with Ad Monetization, Ad Product, and Product Marketing teams to grow our programmatic value proposition and capability awareness in-market. This is a hybrid role, reporting to the VP, Head of Agency Development and Sales Strategy. You can typically expect to be in the office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

• Programmatic Sales Strategy: Develop and execute a plan to secure programmatic deals from PMP spenders who are active in the market along with NYTA-direct accounts, in collaboration with the direct sales team.

• Full-Funnel Accountability involves overseeing client relationships and revenue outcomes. This oversight occurs before and after PMP creation. To meet client commitments and identify growth opportunities, one must work with Account Management, Ad Operations, and Direct Sales.

• Industry Expert: You understand agency programmatic needs, determine what KPI's are required for successful PMP outcomes, and recognize how you impact new and prospective advertisers with the NYT audience.

• Sales Collaboration: Champion all programmatic-related efforts across the sales organization by being the PMP expert for direct sales. This includes leading post-sale account management collaboration and external client engagements.

• Buyer Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with agency and advertiser buyers, understanding their marketing goals and applying our suite of programmatic products.

• Prospecting: Understanding of where programmatic spend is happening in the market and create conversations with net-new NYTA advertisers

• Tech-Stack Mastery: Understand The New York Times technology stack, to be the first line of defense in supporting troubleshooting deals and addressing obstacles with clients

• Voice of the Buyer: Represent buyer needs to guide Ad Product roadmap and Product Marketing collateral toward agreement on external demand

• Campaign Optimization: Collaborate with our teams to ensure campaigns are driving maximum revenue

• Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience of the programmatic advertising ecosystem.

• 2+ years experience programmatic sales

• Experience meeting sales goals, with a history of building and nurturing high-value programmatic-buyer relationships within the digital media space.

• Experience applying data to inform strategic decisions, forecast trends, and optimize campaign performance

• Experience explaining complex programmatic concepts in a clear manner to diverse audiences

• Experience operating in ambiguity and strategies to keep pace with industry developments.

Preferred Qualifications:
