About the role Carrier is seeking a Senior International Trade Export Compliance Counsel to provide strategic legal guidance and practical business support across the enterprise. This role will advise on complex international trade compliance matters, including sanctions, export controls, licensing, investigations, disclosures, risk mitigation and program governance. The successful candidate will partner closely with global business units and cross-functional teams to strengthen Carrier’s trade compliance program, support compliant growth and help ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities • Lead the global export compliance team, reporting to and providing support as needed to Carrier’s Trade Compliance Directors • Support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of trade compliance policies, procedures, standard work and desk instructions across areas such as licensing and authorizations, investigations and facility management • Provide practical legal advice and counseling on international trade and related geopolitical control laws, regulations, and policies • Monitor and advise on changes in trade laws, regulations, and related geopolitical controls globally • Lead compliance enhancement initiatives in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders, including Engineering, Human Resources, Supply Chain, Digital Technology and other business partners • Manage the corporate licensing program and related proactive government outreach for trade matters • Lead and manage investigations of potential or suspected violations of export or sanctions regulations or company policy, including preparing disclosures to U.S. Government agencies when required and coordinating corrective actions • Oversee complex transaction reviews involving multi-jurisdictional sanctions programs, export control regimes and sanctions compliance and geopolitical control considerations • Contribute to the development and communication of a strong international trade compliance program infrastructure, including leadership engagement, culture, awareness and training • Prepare and present executive communications and training on trade compliance issues, obligations, opportunities, and risk areas • Participate in audits, internal reviews and investigations to identify compliance enhancement opportunities, develop corrective actions and implement risk mitigation strategies • Work with Government Relations team members to monitor export and sanctions policy updates and engage in proactive advocacy with the government and trade associations
Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree • Juris Doctor degree • 7 + years of legal, compliance and/or international trade compliance experience • 7 + years of subject matter expertise in sanctions, export controls, licensing and related international trade compliance requirements
Preferred Qualifications • Experience advising business stakeholders on complex legal, regulatory or compliance matters in a corporate environment • Combination of strong legal judgment, business partnership, executive presence and practical problem-solving skills. • 10 years of relevant legal experience • Experience with U.S. export regulations and global sanctions program requirements. Knowledge of US Customs requirements to provide support to International Trade Customs Director is helpful but not required. • Demonstrated ability to build trusted client relationships in a corporate business setting and foster a client-service-oriented approach • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including strong executive presence • Strong leadership capability, sound judgment, professional maturity and the ability to operate as both a strategic advisor and hands-on contributor • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while providing practical, timely guidance to cross-functional teams • Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision while collaborating effectively across business teams and the legal organization • Strong business acumen with the ability to see the big picture while maintaining attention to detail and regulatory precision • Compliance program, risk assessment, risk management or audit experience
Due to the nature of the work and technology access, for purposes of US export control compliance, the candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
Pay Range The annual salary for this position is between $143,000.00 - $286,000.00 annually. Factors which may affect pay within this range include, but are not limited to, skills, education, experience, and other unique qualifications of the successful candidate. Other Compensation This position is entitled to short-term cash incentives, subject to plan requirements.
