Position Summary
The Associate Applications Engineer – Oil & Gas is an early-career engineering role at the intersection of technical product support, systems integration, and field testing for mtu-powered solutions in the Oil & Gas sector. Working alongside senior engineers and cross-functional teams, this role provides technical support to operators and OEMs, contributes to systems design integration across complex project environments including ICE engines, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and plant controls, and supports field acceptance and emissions compliance testing. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineering graduate to build deep technical expertise, develop customer-facing skills, and grow their career in one of the most dynamic segments of the power systems industry.
What you will be doing
• Provide technical applications support to Oil & Gas operators and OEMs - participate in customer technical meetings, analyze requirements, develop technical documentation, and support the integration of complex project systems including ICE mechanical solutions, generators, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and plant manager controls. • Apply Systems Engineering principles across the product lifecycle - contribute to requirements definition, product and system design and integration, technical analysis, verification activities, and root cause investigations including problem reports, Safety Alert Reports, Quality Concerns, and Drawing Alteration Requests. • Support field testing and emissions compliance - plan and execute field acceptance tests, maintain data acquisition systems through software programming and sensor calibration, support EPA field test exemptions, generate test reports, and conduct engineering calculations to validate product installations. • Drive product reliability and safety - ensure emission-compliant installations, improve customer satisfaction through end-to-end project engagement, and promote a culture of safety and product integrity in all areas of responsibility.
Basic Requirements:
• Associate's degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technologies with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience, OR • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Technologies with 0+ years of experience, OR • Master's degree in a related engineering field with 0+ years of experience, OR • 4+ years of relevant engineering or field service experience in lieu of a degree • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S without sponsorship. Preferred Requirements:
• Hands-on experience with engineering tools and technical protocols including LabVIEW programming and NI hardware, MODBUS and CAN bus (J1939) communication protocols, CAD modeling software, and test engineering principles including uncertainty analysis, combined with familiarity with power generator applications, electrical system architectures, and vibration analytics. • Domain knowledge in Oil & Gas power systems, including experience with OEM oil & gas equipment, internal combustion engine performance testing and analysis, and familiarity with mtu and Rolls-Royce Power Systems products, their applications, and operating environments. • Familiarity with engineering quality and project management frameworks including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), project management principles, and Systems Design Integration methodologies applied across complex, multi-disciplinary product lifecycles. • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in extended, multi-disciplinary, and geographically distributed teams, combined with clear oral and written communication skills and the ability to present technical information confidently to customers and internal stakeholders.
