About this role

Job Description Position Summary: The Department seeks three (3) new Tenure-Track Faculty member that will add to our existing teaching and research expertise that complement the current construction management undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

Assistant Professor will teach relevant undergraduate and graduate courses that prepare students to pursue a career in the construction or related industry; advise graduate students, work with student organizations and/or mentor student competition teams, develop and maintain an independent and nationally recognized research program that is supported by external funding, integrate relative research expertise into current and new academic courses, direct student research, and participate in service activity in support of the department, college, university, and industry.

The Department of Construction Management is one of the largest construction management programs in the country with approximately 800 undergraduate students, 20 graduate students, 20 faculty, and 7 professional staff. The undergraduate program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Academic advising, internship and career placement support are provided by professional staff. The Department engages in teaching, scholarly, and outreach activities to promote the development of knowledge and skills related to construction management. The Department’s facilities include over 36,000 square feet in dedicated labs (physical testing and computer), classrooms, and offices to support its research, teaching, and service mission. Essential Job Duties:  • Teaching and Advising: ( 50%): Teach relevant undergraduate and graduate courses that prepare students pursuing a career in the construction industry or closely related field; work with student organizations and/or mentor student competition teams; participate in graduate student advising. • Research: (40%): Develop and maintain an independent and nationally recognized research program that is supported by external funding, conduct independent and collaborative research; aggressively seek extramural funding; integrate relative research expertise into current and new academic courses, and direct student research. • Service: (10%): Participate in service activity in support of the department, college, university, and industry.

Supervision: • Assistant Professor will not supervise any full-time faculty or administrative professional staff. They may supervise a Graduate Research Assistant and/or a Graduate Teaching Assistant. They may supervise a student hourly grading assistant for no more than .25 FTE in each semester.

Minimum Qualifications:  • An earned Doctorate in construction-related field at the time of starting the tenure-track faculty appointment (August 16, 2027). • Potential to successfully teach university-level courses. • Potential to successfully publish in academic proceedings and journals. • Potential to establish an externally funded research program. • A minimum of one-year full-time experience in the Architecture, Engineering and/or Construction (AEC) industry.

Preferred Qualifications:  • Evidence of successful university-level teaching. • Evidence of a publication record in academic proceedings and journals. • Evidence of an externally funded research program. • A minimum of three or more years of progressive, full-time, experience in the Architecture, Engineering and/or Construction (AEC) industry. • Evidence of research expertise in one or more of the following areas:​ A) 3D printed structures B) Automation and robotics in construction C) Artificial Intelligence in construction D) Data collection technologies (instrumentation, sensors, cyber-physical systems) E) Virtual design and construction (may include digital twins, extended reality) F) Modular and offsite construction G) Construction finance and economics • The ability to teach in one or more of the following content areas: A) Graphics Communications in Construction B) Construction Estimating C) Construction Equipment and Methods D) Structural Systems in Construction E) Construction Contracts and Project Administration F) Construction Budget and Cost Controls G) Construction Scheduling H) Soils Engineering for Construction Managers I) Circular Economy • In addition to the above courses, candidates should consider and identify in their application what other courses in the construction management curriculum at Colorado State University they are capable of teaching at both graduate and undergraduate level as well as what additional courses they can develop and introduce to the curriculum as electives.
