Cleveland Clinic’s M60 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) is a 15-bed, Level 4 specialty unit dedicated to providing advanced, comprehensive care to adult patients with suspected or confirmed seizure disorders. Our team recognizes that epilepsy often brings uncertainty and anxiety, and we are deeply committed to caring for both the physical and emotional needs of every patient. Caregivers in M60 value a collaborative, supportive environment where whole-person care is prioritized and where meaningful connections with patients bring purpose to their work.
The Assistant Nurse Manager plays a vital leadership role within this specialized unit, partnering with the Nurse Manager to oversee daily clinical operations, provide supervision, and coordinate care across interdisciplinary teams. This leader ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care on assigned shifts and assumes full managerial responsibilities in the Nurse Manager’s absence. Ideal candidates are passionate about neuroscience nursing, thrive in a team-oriented setting, and are driven to support both clinical excellence and caregiver engagement.
A caregiver in this position works nights| 7:00pm—7:30am| 3 - 12-hour shifts.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
• Facilitate communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments and units regarding issues related to patient care.
• Ensure continuity of patient care information between shifts, coordinate patient admitting, discharges, transfers and other operational issues.
• Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers.
• Provide ongoing clinical evaluations of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers.
• Counsel employees on performance issues, administer initial corrective actions and collaborate in monitoring attendance issues.
• Alert Nurse Manager of significant clinical or other performance issues.
• Participate in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees.
• Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines.
• Administer Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures.
• Supervise and participate in the daily delivery of patient care on assigned unit /area.
• Prepare schedule of work assignments, assuring adequate coverage on all shifts.
• Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcome studies and research initiatives.
• Participate in department groups and committees as assigned.
• Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:
• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
• Bachelor's D egree in N ursing (BSN)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Proof of Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Certification must be presented upon hire
• *If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) (must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment)
• Two years of recent clinical nurse experience
• Demonstratable clinical knowledge and skills; oral, written and interpersonal skills; and strong analytical and organization skills
Physical Requirements: • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment: • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
