  A Glimpse of The Job

The Assistant Director provides leadership for the planning, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of Texas A&M Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine's Rural Campus Program with primary responsibility for the Kingsville Rural Campus. The position serves as a member of the Rural Medicine leadership team and oversees regional operations, undergraduate medical education activities, strategic initiatives, community partnerships, personnel supervision, and program development. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with Academic Affairs, clinical affiliates, faculty, community stakeholders, and University leadership to support the growth and expansion of rural medical education throughout South Texas and future rural campus locations.

Responsibilities Rural Campus Operations & Strategic Leadership • Provides operational leadership for the Kingsville Rural Campus and assists in development of future rural campus locations

• Participates in departmental strategic planning and implementation of Rural Medicine initiatives

• Develops operational goals, priorities, and performance measures for assigned rural campuses

• Represents Rural Medicine on University committees and with external stakeholders

• Provides leadership during the Director's absence on assigned initiatives

Program Administration & Academic Affairs • Oversees daily operations of assigned rural campus programs

• Collaborates with Academic Affairs regarding curriculum delivery, clerkships, student assessments, accreditation activities, scheduling, and student support

• Coordinates implementation of undergraduate medical education activities across assigned rural campuses

• Ensures consistency of educational experiences across all assigned rural campus location

• Supports development of new educational programs and expansion initiatives

• Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates  program activities, to include traveling to program locations to provide onsite support

Personnel Leadership & Supervision • Directly supervises Rural Campus Coordinators and other assigned personnel

• Provides coaching, mentoring, onboarding, training, and performance management

• Assists with hiring, interviewing, workload management, and professional development

• Develops workflows and operational procedures for assigned staff

• Evaluates staffing needs and recommends organizational improvements

Community & Clinical Partnership Development • Serves as the primary operational liaison for hospitals, clinics, physicians, university partners, and community organizations throughout South Texas

• Builds and maintains relationships with preceptors, affiliate partners, health systems, and local leadership

• Represents Rural Medicine at community meetings, conferences, and outreach events

• Assists in identifying new clinical education sites and partnership opportunities

Budget, Reporting & Compliance • Develops and manages operational budgets for assigned rural campus activities

• Monitors expenditures and ensures responsible stewardship of departmental resources

• Develops reports, dashboards, and program analyses for leadership

• Ensures compliance with LCME accreditation standards, university policies, grant requirements, and applicable regulations

• Participates in annual planning and budget development

Special Projects • Leads special projects as assigned by the Director

• Supports implementation of new strategic initiatives

• Participates in grant-supported initiatives and expansion of rural medical education programs

Required Education and Experience • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education administration, medical education, healthcare administration, program management, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications • Master's degree from an accredited college or university

• Experience providing leadership, guidance, and oversight to personnel in a supervisory capacity

• Experience working within a medical education setting

• Knowledge of LCME accreditation standards, processes, and reporting requirements

• Demonstrated success in building and maintaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders

• Experience assisting with budget tracking, procurement processes, and expense monitoring

• Experience working in higher education, academic medicine, or health-related programs

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff

• Excellent communication and presentation skills

• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

• Working knowledge of office software and instructional programs

• Knowledge of principles and methods for teaching and instructing
