Department BSD UCP - Information Services About the Department The University of Chicago biomedical enterprise houses three entities: the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM), and the Pritzker School of Medicine. Collectively called UCM, we are one of the nation's leading academic medical institutions and have been at the forefront of discovery, education, and clinical care since 1927. Job Summary The Assistant Director, Information Systems provides operational leadership and subject matter expertise for Epic Revenue Cycle Professional Billing (PB) applications and related analytics and reporting solutions in support of the University of Chicago Physicians Group (UCPG). This role serves as a bridge between senior technical staff and departmental leadership, supporting strategic initiatives while maintaining direct involvement in system configuration, workflow design, analytics, and issue resolution. This position leads cross functional teams in the development of new and existing systems. Solves complex problems and anticipates evolving business requirements to identify, design, and implement appropriate process improvements, systems alternatives, and/or enhancements to current systems.

The Assistant Director leads complex projects, mentors senior analysts, helps define application standards and best practices, and ensures reliable system performance, data integrity, and alignment with operational and business needs. This position partners closely with clinical, revenue cycle, and IT leadership to drive optimization, scalability, and continuous improvement of professional billing systems and processes. Responsibilities • Serves as a senior subject matter expert for Epic Resolute Professional Billing, including reporting, extracts, charge router, work queues, security, and workflow configuration. • Provides oversight and guidance for the design, build, testing, and implementation of Epic PB enhancements and optimizations. • Ensures system stability, data accuracy, security, and availability across PB applications, reporting platforms, and analytics solutions. • Leads troubleshooting efforts for complex, high-impact issues, and coordinates resolution across technical teams and business stakeholders. • Provides day to day leadership, mentoring, and work direction for senior and mid-level analysts. • Assists the Director with staffing needs, onboarding, training plans, knowledge transfer, and performance feedback. • Promotes standard methodologies, documentation practices, and quality controls across the team. • Serves as an escalation point for analysts and business partners. • Leads multiple concurrent, cross-functional initiatives from intake through delivery with minimal supervision. • Supports project planning, scope definition, timelines, and risk mitigation in partnership with the Director. • Coordinates system upgrades, enhancements, testing cycles, and go live activities. • Translates business requirements into technical solutions that improve operational efficiency and user experience. • Acts as a liaison between IT and operational leaders to evaluate needs, recommend solutions, and align technology with business priorities. • Participates in governance, prioritization discussions, and strategic planning activities related to revenue cycle systems. • Communicates status, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Supports development and optimization of reporting, dashboards, and analytical solutions using enterprise data sources. • Identifies opportunities to improve workflows, reduce manual effort, and enhance data-driven decision-making. • Contributes to long-term roadmap development for Epic PB and associated system
