Architect Provide comprehensive planning, architectural design, and project management services for remodeling, renovation, infrastructure improvements, and selected new construction projects across the BYU campus. Responsibilities include programming, project planning, design, preparation of construction documents and specifications, cost and schedule coordination, code compliance, consultant management, construction administration, and project closeout. The position serves as the primary architectural representative throughout the life of assigned projects, ensuring that projects meet university standards, budgets, schedules, and quality expectations. This position may be assigned projects that require architectural licensure and seal.
What you’ll do in this position: • Serve as the primary project manager and architectural lead for assigned in-house construction projects. • Lead Design Project Manager and/or Architect of Record on select contract projects • Serve as the University's architectural representative for assigned projects designed by outside consultants. • Architectural Review & Sealing – By assignment, review and seal projects requiring an architectural seal, including the architect’s own projects and projects developed by architectural designers under the architect’s supervision. • Maintain sufficient knowledge and involvement in assigned projects to provide appropriate professional oversight and direction. • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the mission and values of Brigham Young University.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU • Bachelor’s degree in architecture from an accredited program, or equivalent education and experience. • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in an architectural office or institutional facilities planning environment. • Five (5) years of professional experience using Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu. • Current Utah Architect license
Technical Knowledge: • Expert proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu. • Thorough knowledge of architectural drafting and BIM standards. • Thorough understanding of construction specifications and specification software. • Thorough knowledge of current International Building Code and related building, fire, accessibility, and life safety codes. • Thorough understanding of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design and the adopted edition of ICC A117.1. • Working knowledge of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, audiovisual, communications, and site systems. • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial building materials, construction methods, and detailing.
Project Management Skills: • Project planning and scheduling. • Budget development and cost control. • Consultant coordination. • Construction administration. • Quality assurance and document coordination. • Problem solving and decision making.
Professional Skills : • Excellent written and verbal communication. • Strong organizational and time management skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. • Ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred • Master’s degree in architecture. • Experience managing architectural projects from programming through construction completion. • Experience managing higher education, institutional, healthcare, or commercial projects. • Experience coordinating architectural and engineering consultants. • Experience with construction administration and contract documents.

Pay Grade: 55
Typical Starting Pay: $92,000.00 to $119,000.00 annually
