Overview: Moelis Private Capital Advisory ("PCA") is a global business providing strategic advisory and distribution to private fund sponsors and institutional investors, spanning primary fundraising, tailored capital raise solutions, and secondary market advisory. Combined with the Firm's financial sponsor franchise, sector expertise and M&A capabilities, PCA delivers customized solutions across strategies including buyout, growth, real assets, special situations and sector-specific strategies.
The Primaries team within Moelis Private Capital Advisory is a leading capital raiser and strategic advisor to global alternative investment managers, advising general partners on the launch and execution of new fund vehicles — flagship and successor funds, first-time funds, separately managed accounts, and co-investment and fundless-sponsor vehicles — across strategies including buyout, growth equity, venture, distressed/turnaround, infrastructure, mezzanine, credit, and real assets. The team positions the fund, builds the LP order book, and runs the process through to final close, working closely with industry and product groups across Moelis and maintaining deep relationships with institutional LPs globally, including pension plans, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, insurance companies, and funds-of-funds.
Position Description: The Analyst position offers exposure to all aspects of a live primary fundraise — from initial GP due diligence and positioning through final close — for flagship fund launches, first-time funds, separately managed accounts, and co-investment vehicles. The Analyst works closely with senior professionals firmwide, gaining close exposure to both fund manager clients and the LPs evaluating them.
Responsibilities: • Evaluate potential fundraising mandates by conducting GP due diligence — analyzing the manager's investment portfolio, track record and performance attribution, investment strategy, and quality of the management team
• Prepare fund marketing materials, including investor presentations (PPMs), data books, and financial models, and review fund economics (management fee, carry, GP commitment, key-person and other LPA terms) for accuracy and market positioning
• Coordinate investor roadshows and provide GP client support throughout the fundraising process, from soft-circling through first close, subsequent closes, and final close
• Manage the online dataroom for active fundraising campaigns and control the flow of fund documentation to prospective LPs
• Work with senior distribution/sales bankers to track investor feedback and maintain the LP order book and fundraising pipeline reporting
• Complete due diligence requests from LPs, including responses to due diligence questionnaires (DDQs) and coordination on subscription documents and side letters
• Maintain databases of active and historical fund closings, fund terms and benchmarks, and institutional LP investors (profiles, allocation strategies, and preferences) to support marketing materials and client advice
• Communicate regularly with institutional investors (pension plans, endowments and foundations, SWFs, insurance firms, funds-of-funds, family offices, asset managers, etc.) throughout the fundraise
• Conduct primary market research, including tracking fundraising volumes, fund terms, and LP allocation trends across the alternatives industry
• Conduct ad hoc industry research
Qualifications: Candidates for the Analyst position should exhibit a strong history of academic achievement as well as possess the following attributes: • Minimum of 1-2 years post-college financial services experience
• Understanding of the private equity industry and an interest in primary fundraising and institutional LP coverage
• Highly motivated individual with a strong desire to learn
• Keen attention to detail
• Strong analytical and technical skills (including extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
• Ability to think creatively in order to solve problems
• Excellent communication skills
• Organized, with good judgment and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a broader team
Compensation Expectations: USD $110,000–$135,000
