Epic Ambulatory Applications Operational Lead

Location: Remote (On-site 3–6 days per month, as needed) Employment Type: Contract (W2) Compensation: $99.00/hour

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Epic Ambulatory Applications Operational Lead to provide operational leadership for a large healthcare organization's Epic Ambulatory application portfolio. This role is ideal for a seasoned Epic leader who excels at balancing day-to-day operational support with strategic implementation initiatives.

The Operational Lead will oversee the Ambulatory application portfolio, including Epic Ambulatory, Healthy Planet, MyChart, Wisdom, and related Epic applications , while partnering closely with executive leadership, application teams, and operational stakeholders to ensure the continued success of clinical systems and the Epic Phase II implementation.

Please note: This position provides operational and technical leadership but does not include direct personnel management or HR supervisory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational leadership for the Epic Ambulatory application portfolio.

• Partner with the Ambulatory Supervisor and Associate Chief Information Officer (ACIO) to prioritize operational initiatives, enhancement requests, and implementation activities.

• Support governance, strategic planning, and executive decision-making for Epic Phase II implementation efforts.

• Coordinate activities across application teams, project leadership, clinical stakeholders, and operational departments.

• Assist with workload prioritization, issue escalation, resource planning, and operational continuity.

• Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and operational leadership to Epic analysts and project leads.

• Develop and improve operational processes, application ownership standards, and team collaboration.

• Identify opportunities for workflow optimization and continuous improvement.

• Ensure alignment between application support, organizational priorities, and implementation milestones.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience supporting Epic clinical applications within a healthcare environment.

• Extensive leadership experience supporting Epic Ambulatory application teams.

• Demonstrated success balancing operational support with large-scale Epic implementation projects.

• Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders.

• Strong organizational, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.

• Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Information Technology, Nursing, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• Epic certification in Ambulatory .

• Additional Epic certifications in Healthy Planet, MyChart, Wisdom , or other related clinical applications.

• Experience leading Epic optimization, implementation, and operational transformation initiatives.

• Experience collaborating with executive leadership, clinical leadership, and multidisciplinary teams.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Deep knowledge of Epic Ambulatory workflows, governance, and healthcare operations.

• Strong understanding of Epic clinical application lifecycle management and support models.

• Ability to prioritize competing initiatives while maintaining operational excellence.

• Proven leadership skills with the ability to influence teams without direct supervisory authority.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to build collaborative relationships across technical, clinical, and executive leadership teams.

• Experience mentoring analysts and fostering high-performing, collaborative teams
