Affordable Compliance Manager
The Affordable Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing affordable housing compliance across an assigned portfolio, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and agency regulations while supporting operational teams, clients, and compliance staff. This position serves as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on regulatory requirements, preparing for agency audits, mentoring team members, and driving consistent compliance processes that minimize risk and support operational excellence.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Compliance Management
• Ensure compliance with all applicable affordable housing programs, agency regulations, and company policies.
• Remain current on changes to affordable housing programs, agency requirements, policies, manuals, and regulatory guidance.
• Share regulatory updates and best practices with the Compliance Department.
• Ensure quarterly and annual reporting is completed accurately and submitted within established deadlines.
• Maintain current SharePoint workbooks, compliance trackers, and other department resources.
• Perform peer reviews of manager certifications and Assistant Property Manager certifications as required.
• Serve as an additional point of contact for Compliance Managers by providing guidance and technical expertise on compliance matters.
Audit & Regulatory Oversight
• Ensure all pre-onsite documentation for agency file audits is prepared and submitted on time.
• Provide guidance and support to Compliance staff in preparing for agency audits and onsite reviews.
• Assist with property visits in preparation for agency inspections and reviews.
• Support the completion of corrective action responses following agency audits.
• Report significant audit findings or compliance deficiencies to the Vice President of Compliance.
• Assist Operations and Compliance teams in resolving complex compliance issues.
Client & Operational Support
• Communicate effectively with Compliance staff, Regional Management, syndicators, and clients.
• Respond to inquiries from Regional Managers and syndicators in a timely manner.
• Maintain regular communication with the Vice President of Compliance regarding compliance concerns and operational issues.
• Conduct periodic meetings with Compliance staff and leadership.
• Build collaborative working relationships across departments while providing timely guidance on compliance questions and concerns.
• Participate in client strategy discussions to support ongoing regulatory compliance.
• Develop strong working relationships with clients, operational leaders, and corporate partners.
Leadership & Team Development
• Mentor and support Compliance Managers and other compliance professionals.
• Identify training opportunities and coordinate with the Compliance Trainer to address development needs.
• Attend required compliance training and pursue additional education to expand affordable housing expertise.
• Share knowledge, best practices, and advanced training with members of the Compliance team.
• Leverage team strengths to improve overall portfolio performance.
• Foster collaboration across portfolios and contribute to department-wide initiatives.
• Provide valuable feedback to improve departmental processes and effectiveness.
• Fill in for other Compliance Managers as needed.
• Maintain an up-to-date Outlook calendar reflecting work schedules and availability.
Problem Solving & Decision Making
• Work closely with the Vice President of Compliance to develop action plans for non-compliant properties.
• Anticipate potential compliance risks and proactively communicate concerns.
• Recommend solutions based on industry regulations, agency requirements, and best practices.
• Resolve complex compliance issues independently and effectively in high-pressure situations.
• Provide coaching and guidance to less experienced Compliance Managers on problem-solving techniques.
