Job Description The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Administrative Assistant 3, College of Hospitality / College of Engineering (FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE) [R0153037].
Remote one day/week
ROLE of the POSITION This position serves administrative and business operations for two complex, interdisciplinary units: the Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering and the College of Hospitality’s Global Sport Hospitality Research and Strategic Initiatives.
The Department of Applied and Interdisciplinary Engineering functions as a cross-disciplinary hub connecting programs, faculty, and resources across the University. Global Sport Hospitality Research and Strategic Initiatives serve as a bridge between academia and industry, advancing research, partnerships, workforce development, and strategic initiatives within sport and hospitality.
Working with a high degree of independence, the position manages fiscal operations, academic scheduling, faculty assignments, procurement, personnel support, grants and contracts, accreditation documentation, events, and executive administration. The position also serves as a primary liaison among faculty, department leadership, Dean’s offices, central university units, students, and external partners. Success in the role requires sound judgment, discretion, strong institutional knowledge, and the ability to coordinate policies, priorities, and business practices across multiple colleges and departments.
PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE The College of Hospitality’s focus on Global Sport Hospitality Research and Strategic Initiatives serves as a bridge between academia and industry. Through innovative research, strategic partnerships, and experiential initiatives at the intersection of sport, hospitality, entertainment, technology, and community engagement, the initiative supports workforce development, industry innovation, and global impact.
The Harrah College of Hospitality is a world-renowned institution consistently ranked among the top five hospitality programs globally. It provides a comprehensive educational experience through a strong theoretical and practical foundation, offering a diverse array of undergraduate concentrations (including Gaming, Beverage, and Event Management) alongside master’s, doctoral, and dual-degree programs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Preference may be given to candidates with: • Prior experience in higher education settings, particularly within academic advising or student services.
• Knowledge of UNLV’s policies, practices, and procedures. • Proficiency in using Workday or similar systems. • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
