Nationwide is hiring an Actuarial Consultant to join Personal Lines Pricing. This role will have a focus on the Homeowner's line of business, where actuarial insight helps shape pricing strategy, manage risk, and support profitable growth across personal lines.

In this role you will have the opportunity to influence business decision through recommendations on catastrophe and weather pricing, ratemaking assumptions, planning and forecasting, and monitoring emerging loss trends.

Reporting to PL Actuary Pricing Leader, this is a collaborative, high-visibility team that values curiosity, continuous learning, practical problem-solving, and innovative approaches to pricing decisions.

About the Position: As an Actuarial Consultant, you will help turn complex insurance data and evolving risk dynamics into clear pricing recommendations and business decisions. You will contribute to the continued modernization of personal lines pricing while building strong partnerships across actuarial, risk, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities: • Perform and support actuarial analyses that inform personal lines pricing weather loss and trend assumptions.  • Partner with Risk Management on catastrophe, reinsurance, and profit assumptions for pricing  • Support innovation, refinement, and documentation of property pricing methodology  • Contribute to planning and forecasting activities, including the development and delivery of pricing opinions.  • Monitor loss trends and emerging experience, identifying implications for current year financial results and opportunities to improve pricing assumptions.  • Translate technical analysis into clear recommendations for business partners and pricing leadership. 

Qualifications  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or another related quantitative field.  • ACAS designation, or significant progress toward achieving actuarial credential preferred.  • Growth in actuarial experience, ideally in P&C pricing, personal lines property, catastrophe pricing, or a related insurance discipline.  • Working knowledge of traditional actuarial pricing methodologies and the ability to apply sound analytical judgment to complex business questions.  • Experience using data to evaluate loss trends, support pricing decisions, or develop recommendations for business partners.  • SQL experience, or the ability and interest to learn SQL quickly.  • Exposure to Python, R, Databricks, Snowflake, or similar analytical tools is beneficial.  • Experience with homeowners pricing, catastrophe and weather risk, or planning and forecasting is a plus. 

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

As an Actuarial Consultant, you’ll need to be adept at actuarial functions and know P&C products to perform complex, quantitative actuarial analyses. In addition, we’ll count on you to provide expertise, including consultation and recommendations, on actuarial models and issues.

This position may have the opportunity to be a part of the P&C Actuarial Rotation Program, which will give you the potential opportunity to work on various actuarial, analytics, and risk management teams to learn and develop across different actuarial functions. Should you choose to participate in the program, you will participate in two to three rotations of two years each. Full program details will be provided to you upon your start date. Job Description Key Responsibilities:   • Has in depth knowledge of actuarial methodologies with the ability to source and manipulate complex data within standard requirements.

• Conducts complex analyses, adhering to actuarial standards, by selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, recognizing considerations, and developing recommendations. Resolves unreasonable results/non-optimal solutions using experience and professional judgment.

• Accurately documents assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion.

• Prepares and presents actuarial findings and documents that are suitable for technical and non-technical audiences at the senior Actuarial leadership level. May professionally represent company position with regulators, auditors, and external vendors.

• Develops work plans and ensures accurate work product is delivered.

• Leads peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work, and drive innovation.

• Maintains relationship with business customers as well as builds new relationships.

• Leads onboarding and training for new associates on standard work processes.

• Applies data mining techniques used to identify new relationships in data and make recommendations based on findings. Builds and validates models in different software packages. Explores the use of new software packages. Has practical use of predictive modeling.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
