About this role

ABOUT onX

We’re a team of builders, adventurers, and risk takers using technology to help people confidently explore the outdoors. Driven by our mission to awaken the adventurer inside everyone, we build products that optimize every outdoor experience and inspire confidence to get out and go further.

We’re a high-growth tech company. The pace is fast, the work takes grit, and ambiguity is part of the job. As the world changes around us, we adapt - continuously evolving how we build, prioritize, and deliver.

Our business moves quickly, and there’s real opportunity to shape what we build next. Each of our verticals - Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish - is at a different stage of maturity, which means the challenges you encounter and the impact you have will vary depending on where you sit and what the business needs most.

We operate with an experimentation mindset, continually iterating and improving how we solve problems. We expect our people to use the latest tooling, including AI, thoughtfully and responsibly, pairing human judgment with technology to increase quality, speed, and impact.

Our impact comes to life through the products we build, in the stories of our customers, and in our growing commitment to land stewardship and recreational access.

ABOUT ACCESS & STEWARDSHIP AT onX

Access and Stewardship (A&S) is central to onX's mission and long-term relevance in the outdoor industry. Our products help people understand access, navigate land boundaries, and make confident decisions outside. But the future of outdoor recreation is shaped not only by technology, but by the stewardship of the places people use and the policies that determine how lands are accessed, managed, and understood.

onX's A&S program brings these pieces together through charitable giving, stewardship projects, customer education, geospatial storytelling, access-informed tools, and a growing advocacy and government relations practice on issues that affect access, stewardship, and federal geospatial data. This work strengthens customer trust, reinforces onX's role as a credible voice in the outdoor space, and connects our products and expertise to real-world outcomes for public lands and outdoor communities.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

onX is seeking an experienced Access & Stewardship Program Director to run and grow the company's A&S program. This person defines program priorities, drives annual planning, and oversees grants, stewardship initiatives, customer education, access-related geospatial and product integration projects, partnerships, and policy-informed programs.

The Program Director is both a strategist and a hands-on operator. The core of the job is program strategy, prioritization, and delivery: translating A&S priorities into clear plans and measurable initiatives that align with onX's business and brand priorities. This person connects policy context, stewardship priorities, partnerships, education, and tools into a cohesive program rather than a set of disconnected efforts.

A defining part of this role is guiding how onX expands its political exposure: deliberately, in nonpartisan and credibility-building ways, and with clear-eyed judgment about risk. This person will surface trade-offs and risks early and provide clear recommendations so senior leadership can make deliberate, informed decisions.

Success looks like a focused and credible program, sound partner and investment choices, measurable progress, and executive-ready reporting on impact, trade-offs, and where to invest next. This role reports to the Director of Brand Programs.

• Set strategic direction for onX's A&S program, translating broad goals into sequenced initiatives and making deliberate calls about where to focus and invest.

• Bring policy context, public lands realities, and stewardship priorities into program strategy in partnership with onX's policy consultant, internal experts, and leadership.

• Drive adoption of A&S priorities across the vertical businesses, building alignment across teams with different incentives, perspectives, and timelines.

• Direct customer education and engagement and set budget, investment direction, and final approval for the Adventure Forever Grant Program.

• Coach and develop A&S teammates while staying directly involved in the day-to-day work of the program.

• Direct Government Affairs & Partnerships

• Own and direct onX's government relations and policy consultant relationship, setting priorities and turning federal developments into clear decisions and actions.

• Shape onX's policy positions with internal experts and leadership, keeping them specific, defensible, and nonpartisan.

• Identify and manage priority nonprofit and community partners that advance A&S program goals.

• Lead and participate in Washington, D.C. engagements with congressional offices, agency stakeholders, and advocacy partners.

• Synthesize qualitative and quantitative inputs into executive-ready updates and present clear recommendations, risks, trade-offs, and opportunities to senior leadership.

• Lead internal communication for A&S and partner with PR on external and media representation.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Environmental Studies, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
